Apparently it’s this new file format called .gif where you can compress videos into a small file that any browser can read
funnily enough, GIF is a lossles file format. but it only allows 8-bit color.
The compression usually happens before it is saved as a gif. It can use 8-bit colours, but it takes up less space if you use fewer.
Does it index the colors?
And how is that gif pronounced?

Exactly right. I hate it when people pronounce it as gif instead.
