Wait, what happened? And which game?

I’ll wait 6 months to make sure it’s not another rug pull like the Stellaris knockoff.

Star Trek Infinite (Steam Link) was a sort of Stellaris spin-off (same engine, same basic play method) that was apparently not bad, but not as good as the existing Star Trek mods for actual Stellaris. There were apparent plans for developing it further, DLCs etc but it got abandoned almost immediately and bugs remain unfixed.

I wasn’t aware of the Stellaris mods at the time I grabbed Infinite, but I have to say that I honestly don’t mind dipping into it from time to time. I guess there’s bugs and balance issues and whatever but apparently I’m basic enough that I haven’t noticed. It getting abandoned does make me quite angry though.

It’s still on my wish list, if it drops to 90% off on a sale or something - I still think I’d enjoy it.
I also worry that if nobody ever buys it, then some awful CEO will use it as proof that “Nobody likes star Trek strategy games”, and for the next decade, we’ll only get Star Trek themed first-person-arena-extraction-lootbox-shooters or whatever.

… There’s Star Trek mods for Stellaris?

Just so you don’t get disappointed, this is a far different game from Stellaris. It’s a “linear but with permutations” story-based game that has some management elements to it. But they’ve very openly stated that they’re a small team and this is not a 4X.

Fair enough. Different studio and game and all that. I’m just gun-shy now.

I agree. Gaming has gotten to the point that its honestly better just to wait the 6 months, let the studio debug and actually have a finished product and then buy it when its 20% off.
