IHawkMike@lemmy.world 2 months agoLol Microsoft is not even close to a walled garden. This is just them removing the password manager feature that nobody used from their authenticator app.
I used it. And I used Edge. This is the most braindead change they could have made. Edge automatically synced passwords to Authenticator across mobile and PC. Losing the ability to autofill passwords outside of Edge makes it significantly less useful.
If anything, as someone who was in their garden, this change is unironically making me want to go find another garden to play in instead of stick closer to theirs. Why is Microsoft so hellebent on making people hate it’s software recently?
They know only so many people will be aware of these changes and even less businesses will do anything to remove M$ tech from their operations.
This is what I mean with closing off the garden. They might have some openings but they are actively trying to lock in as many consumers and businesses that they can. They need to lock shit in order to stay profitable above all else.

Not that guy but another: No. You? Because Microsoft is a lot of things but walled gardens is something out of Cupertino. Not Redmond.
You can call MS shitty and I would fully concur but a walled gardens it’s not.
You don’t need ad, Exchange/outlook, m365, entraid. They’re nice for most users but you can live without and use other services in their place on any MS platform.
Now, iOS… Have fun with that.
