I’d say a bit earlier than that personally (wife and I agree that 28 is around that sweet spot). Old enough to have independence and chill out, but young enough that you don’t randomly end up with a headache all damn day because you slept slightly wrong.

Nah son. I talked over this with my dad, starting career and being independent is the best. Having kids and supporting a family really puts a damper on all that freedom and possible recklessness.

And nobody forces you to have kids, you know? If anything that’s just saying to make sure to make choices that you will be happy with in your life

Yes, I chose to have kids and change nappies, doesn’t make it any less disgusting when the shit starts going everywhere, and a billion other things I knowingly signed up for sucking.
“This is going to suck, and be worth it after”
Later : “this sucks”
You : “LOL NO ONE FORCED YOU AMIRITE?!”Genius@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
We’re in a different political climate than when you were young. Today’s youth can’t afford to have children, and even if they could, they know bringing a child into a world of impending climate collapse is a cruelty.
They’re jealous of your privilege and resentful that you still find the time to complain in front of them even with your good luck. They wish they could care about problems as simple as yours. But alas, your struggles are no longer relatable. They’re just reminders of how good you have it compared to them.

I have a family that lives an adventurous life with me. They don’t hold me back. Kids are so malleable. They don’t hold you back unless that’s the life you create (obvious exceptions for special needs kids may apply).
And “recklessness” is part of my youth I was happy to leave behind.

Older children, sure, but there’s a lot more intense childcare that takes up a lot of time with the baby. I am kinda in some of the exception circumstance, but not with the kid.
On top of that, if you’re the sole breadwinner, you can’t just drop your job to go do some stupid shit, like I did earlier.
