  Yeah, I don’t understand how this is burning dystopia at all (unless we’re talking about basic resource scarcity). Didn’t steam do almost this same thing when taking pre orders for the steam deck?

    steam deck afaik only checked if you have ever purchased a steam game to prioritize. as those with new accounts or never purchased a game would be a red flag on whether they actually want the device for themselves

        the deck was released during covid, so it was in the best interest to valve to actually sell the device to people looking to actually buy and play games

    It’s definitely a bit dystopian to prioritize those that have the most time and money rather than just those that want to and have the means to purchase even if it’s a reasonable way to handle a limited resource.
    I still don’t know what to do much about the mass scalper parasite that is its own dystopian touch.

    And steam just checked that you had made a purchase for the first 48 hours of preorders.

  Specifically aiming at people with free time?
  Seems like it more directly supports prioritizing those that play for a living and gets content creators priority to start the paying marketing arm.

        So you mean they should just prioritise rich people instead of passionate people?

        They can’t know how much free time people have, but it’s a fair assumption that more time using the Switch means you’re more interested in playing it.

        They’re rewarding loyalty. But you think they should reward… having money?
