- Comment on Selfhosted chat service 1 month ago:
Well, Samsung would kill the app when it was in the background, so notifications would only appear when you explicitly opened the app.

I used this for a while. Notifications were lackluster on Samsung phones.

Don’t work for Amazon. Problem solved.
- Comment on How is it possible for the IT experts to recover data that was erased from a hard drive when the storage of said hard drive appears empty? 2 months ago:
Often times when you delete something off a computer, the computer simply deletes the address of the data, but doesn’t overwrite the data.
Think of a map for a city. If you delete a house off the map, you may not be able to find it anymore, but the house is still there. It’s the same for computer storage

Arguably, AI struggles with hands because the creators of the training data struggled with hands.
AI sucks at hands precisely because humans suck at hands.

- Comment on Nginx pihole and pfsense issue 3 months ago:
I mostly meant the DNS sinkhole functionality that pihole is famous for using to block ads. You wouldn’t use pfblocker-ng for domain routing.
Here is a forum post from negate discussing what I think you’re looking for.
- Comment on Nginx pihole and pfsense issue 3 months ago:
I don’t know the answer to your question, but you can get the functionality of pihole directly in pfsense using pfblocker-ng

- Comment on Groundbreaking barium titanate solar panels are 1000x more powerful than existing panels 4 months ago:
compared to pure barium titanate of a similar thickness, the current flow was up to 1,000 times stronger
This says noting of efficiency compared to standard solar panels. Seems misleading at best.

- Comment on Linus Torvalds says RISC-V will make the same mistakes as Arm and x86 4 months ago:
He doesn’t post what the mistakes will be. He said that he fears that because hardware people aren’t software people, that they will make the same mistakes that x86 made, which were then made by Arm later.
He did mention that fixing those mistakes was faster for Arm than x86, so that brings hope that fixing the mistakes on Risc V will take less time

- Comment on How did we get humans on the moon in 1969 and are still struggling to get the Starship rocket to launch properly? 6 months ago:
Different design paradigms. In 1969, they had one shot to get everything right, and prepared accordingly (not to mention, they had a massive budget since the space race was all part of the cold war).
SpaceX is taking a different approach, fail fast and cheap. They are taking an iterative approach that allows them to learn from previous failures, rather than anticipating what all those failures could be and then over engineering the rocket to prevent that.
They are different approaches, and each has their own pros and cons. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Still much easier than setting up “smart” tech. That’s really on a person by person basis. I’m a software engineer, and have already automated a lot of aspects of my life, so adding another device and a new automation took me like 10 minutes to setup.
