It’d be a very idiotic move, in my opinion but the push towards contactless payment methods seem to be the way banks and payment services are wanting to push society.

Why do people eat food they know isn’t good for their health? Why do people continue to buy products from companies that have proven to only sell bad products or engage in scumbag practices?
They all have the same answer.
- Comment on If you or somebody you know ever fell for a romance scam, how did you or the person fall for it? 1 month ago:
A common tactic is to pay your victims back to build trust and later ask for larger sums because “well they paid me back last time”

I don’t have personal history with romance scams but this video is a good example other sites being used. In this instance it was Instagram but I’ve heard of Facebook stories in the past. I’d say it can happen on any website that is designed to have some personal level of interaction, so not the standard screaming match that is Twitter but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn of them happening there too.
For avoiding it, it’s as simple and harsh as “don’t accept invites from people you don’t know” and “don’t send money to people you don’t know”. Going beyond romance scams, such as hacked accounts from friends who are “suddenly in trouble”, do everything possible to be sure it’s them before even looking at a payment link. Consider if this is a person who would ask you for money (some people are too proud to do so and a scammer wouldn’t know that), get them in a call and have a full conversation with them so you can be 100% sure it’s them.
Back on romance scams specifically, particularly good scammers can wait months or even a couple of years before they pull on the money thread. It’s more likely they’ll start off with actually paying the person back (they do this by having multiple victims on the hook at once and just shuffling money around between them to look legit). Slowly but surely, the figures will increase before there’s a sizeable honey pot before they dip.
Golden rule I can say for anyone is only send money to someone you are presently physically looking at, otherwise only send money you’re comfortable with never getting back. This also applies to buying stuff for them with a “I’ll pay you back”. If you’re the sort of person who would feel bad about not helping out a friend in need, you are the target. It’s harsh to say “don’t help the people you think are friends” as a blanket statement but it’s having absolute rules such as “don’t add people” and “don’t send money. EVER” that will keep you out of danger.

Hands down Jerboa for Android.
- Comment on Why are SMS messages so expensive? 2 months ago:
For such limited usage, it’s absolutely not worth monthly. Unlimited for X amount is only good value if you’re making enough use out of it to outweigh the cost of PAYG. I used to travel for work and even at a bargain price of ~$10 for 20GB/unlimited/unlimited, I was only really using my data for Spotify while driving so come the end of the monthly cycle, I’d have an evening of watching YT or whatever else on my data since I’d still typically have about half left.

Pay-as-you-go is still popular in poorer markets, more rural areas or even in pro-competitive markets. It’s only particularly scummy markets that force customers to use their credit within a certain time period so for those who only rarely call/text and have consistent access to wifi, even 5-10 dollars worth of credit can last a year or more. Extremely consumer-friendly.

I have to admit it’s refreshing to hear from the haves acknowledging it was their and prior generations that fuckes things up instead of accusing the younger generations of being lazy.

Honestly, man, I kinda wish it was my favourite. Annoyingly, it’s just been one of those intro cards that has got stuck in my head. You’re mostly on the money though. The girl isn’t always younger but the general principle is she’s giving poor browski a hard time for the fun of it before they bang by some narrative means. You say it’s specific but if you mute it and just watch shit unfold, it’s your standard sudden dom power fantasy. Pretty basic stuff, really.

Just to tack onto the ending sentiment. To anyone into the anime scene, be wary about sites like paheal. They still have basically no filtering (if any at all) so it’s very easy to encounter goro and other niche kinks that make a lot of people want to bleach their eyes. If you don’t know what goro is, don’t look it up because you most likely didn’t want to know in the first place.

Exactly. It’s just narrative shorthand. I’m sure there are some people getting there jollies from the narrative side but those’ll be the ones who don’t have the impulse to turn the volume down when the Brattysis intro gets to the “You’re the best big brother…” part.

Well it isn’t incest which makes it taboo only on a surface level. Beyond that, it’s a quick setup to a story for young or young-looking actors as well as an easy, built-in explanation for someone to walk in on them and get an “exposed” element to their narrative.
Basically it’s just cheap and convenient writing. Be disgusted if you want but even within their little narrative it’s not incest so you’re getting your featers riled up over nothing.

They don’t but it makes their fragile egos feel better if they have one lined up

Assuming there was ever anything in the victim’s hands to begin with. Plenty of cops will go on to deny the person emergency treatment under the guise of the individual being “too dangerous”

People tend to stick to the old rumor even though blue light as a problem is mostly a myth peddled by companies who only care about selling a product.

I have a Kobo Clara 2E for pretty much this reason. The lit screen has multiple levels of luminosity and adjustable yellow tone. I keep mine at a cool stone white but it can go really yellow if that’s what you want. On top of that, Kobo is much more user friendly for loading ebooks, it’s compatible with a whole range of ebook formats unlike Kindle.
- Comment on Are there typically limits to the size that ROMs can be when it comes to emulators? 5 months ago:
Thanks for the correction and further detail. I was thinking of it in moder terms where the machine takes the info it needs as-and-when rather than storing everything on the cartridge.
- Comment on Are there typically limits to the size that ROMs can be when it comes to emulators? 5 months ago:
I thought the reason for switching was the storage limitations of a cartridge, not the console’s RAM

Short of any model requirements, I’ll just recommend looking at the Kobo line up. They have a pretty wide variety and all support a large number of formats though as someone else pointed out, you can use Calibre to reformat ebooks where needed. You can also put KOreader on them like someone else suggested doing with a kindle so you really aren’t missing out on anything by not having a Kindle.
- Comment on What happened to LineageOS? Has it been replaced by GrapheneOS? 6 months ago:
Sadly, there’s not too much I can do about that. From what I’ve understood, there’s a whole lot of red tape around tap-to-pay transaction technology. Personally, I don’t use any of it. Only cash or card where I have to.
