No ads, no masters.
There’s never been a worthwhile server with unskippable or unblockable ads.

How does one have a donation = no influence policy?
Huge companies donate to make open apps like this reliant on them. Then they threaten to pull the donation if that doesn’t happen…
Strong Copyleft licenses protect from this by allowing others to fork and keep an app going without being taken advantage of.
If Google donates 1 billion dollars tomorrow, and over several months, Ladybird will expand to use that money. Then Google can threaten to stop the donations unless LB does something like “make ad blockers worse”
It’s a web browser. The only money they will make is from donations. Unless they do something wonky with their business model, like charge. Then no one will use it anyway.

- Comment on Sonos Plans to Launch Apple TV-Like Streaming Box 3 weeks ago:
No. Apple TV is 2 different products with this name. Apple TV+ is a subscription based TV streaming service. Like Netflix and Disney+.
The other one, Apple TV, the one Sonos is copying, is a piece of hardware that plugs to your TV and downloads apps to connect to the other streaming services. This hardware piece is comparable to an Amazon Firestick, a Google Chromecast, Nvidia Sheild, Roku, and a slew of cheap Android TV boxes.

Hardware is more capable… To do what?
I know some people play games and stuff, but as a streaming device, why? The newest Chromecast handles x264 and can support an Ethernet port just fine for like half the price.
Also supports miracast for the odd screen casting need

Roku comes preinstalled on a lot of the Chinese brands. I assumed the rest of the world bought those as well.
- Comment on Sonos Plans to Launch Apple TV-Like Streaming Box 3 weeks ago:
Why is this ‘Apple TV’ like, and not Roku-like. Since it’s by-far the most popular.
- Comment on Sonos Plans to Launch Apple TV-Like Streaming Box 3 weeks ago:
Not another streaming service. Another streaming OS.
Apple TV, the roku/firestick/android TV competitor.
Not Apple TV, the Netflix/Hulu competitor.

Polar bears don’t find food as readily as Grizzly bears. If a Grizzly hesitates on a salmon, it’ll find another salmon.
If a Polar hesitates on a penguin, it could starve.

ITT: People who don’t know as much as me.
All they killed was the branding. The Chromecast with Google TV was such a far cry from an OG Chromecast that it was stupid for them to have the same name.
OG Chromecast could only cast and did not have a remote. The CCwGT did still support casting, but also had a remote and a real UI.
The TV streamer is just the CCwGT in a fancy shell with probably a more powerful processor. I’ll bet money that it still supports casting, and can only do pretty much exactly what the CCwGT could do.

You can install LineageOS on one of the models of Chromecast for Android TV.

Now there’s the delima. You find yourself a way to make money that isn’t working, and everyone else will start doing it. When everyone is doing it, some people will start to invent in doing it (education for example). These people will do better, and take a higher share of the activity. These people, having invested, will be required to preform consistently. Just to make there money back.
Now you just have a new job.

As a userbase grows, companies have 2 options to make it more competitive.
More services Lower prices
And no company chooses the later.
And that’s how you get bloat

I stopped using Brave when and because of crypto bs.
I stopped using proton a few months ago because the price was just too high and my need too small. I needed a reasonably priced family plan for email on my domain, not another cloud drive.
I think this decision will hurt them as others come to this conclusion
- Comment on Should I use a reverse proxy in a homelab? 7 months ago:
For sure.
At some point, your services could easily warrent it. If you learn it early, it makes it much easier to organize your services and share them with others if you decide to.
Also, if you do decide to use a domain name, you probably won’t be able to use it internally to your network. If you use Adguard, you can use DNS rewrite to only direct your traffic to your server when you’re in your network.
Also, personally, I use nginx, but I’m more than happy to give you any advice on setup or reverse proxy.

I’ve seen one video on the subject that my wife showed me, then I had a conversation with my wife about it.
When you’re looking at statistics, women attacked by bears per year vs women attacked by men per year, it’s not taking into account the fact that 99% of women don’t get into situations where they are near bears. Most women (and men) don’t go hiking in bear populated woods frequently. Like how the overall odds of getting struck by lightning is low, but some people are struck 8 times are survive.
The better statistic for this argument is that a man is more likely going to kill you in an encounter, should it escalate. I didn’t fact check this, but I’ll take this video at it’s word.
