It says it’s a gift card balance equivalent to the purchase price that’s automatically applied on their next purchase (+an extra £5 to sweeten the deal), so not really the same thing as the cash they originally paid for it.

Shit like this just contributes to this overall messy feeling I have on Windows. For many reasons I can’t get off the OS, but man every time I use Linux (for servers/my personal laptop/etc.) it just feels so clean in comparison.

That’s because actual workers don’t have any power, so replacing them with AI doesn’t give AI any.

Well, my Ubuntu server is already running a whole bunch of things so I don’t want to take it down and rebuild it on a different OS.

regardless of it being FOSS
Exactly, it’s not about it being FOSS. It’s about the nature of the software itself. Being against that software doesn’t make you anti-FOSS. Additionally, open sourcing your malware is actually helpful for people trying to combat it.

It’s also a bit of a chicken and egg situation because in order for them to mature significantly, games have to be made in Godot, but less people will even start if Godot doesn’t look mature enough as a product.
On the other hand, Godot 4.x is really impressive. Like yeah you’re not gonna be able to make the next million dollar open world action adventure 70 USD + DLC title in it, but for every one of those there’s a hundred games that Godot is more than powerful enough for. But the new version only just came out earlier this year so it’s gonna take a while before we see games coming out with the new tech.

- Comment on Man Used 80 Discarded Vape Batteries to Power an Electric Scooter Proving the Importance of E-Waste 1 year ago:
The math really doesn’t check out on them, for the price of just two of these you can buy a bottle of vape juice, and a replaceable pod based vape from a company like OXVA. Once you’ve bought three that covers the cost of more pods and more juice and you’re set for way longer. Still kinda bad since the pods are technically disposable but they last longer, they’re far smaller in size, and they don’t have a lithium ion battery. I see people buy these things for convenience, and I admit I did once when I had lost my vape and was waiting for the replacement to come in. But I can’t imagine throwing an entire device away every month or so.

There’s versions of VSCode you can run as a web app, including support for the terminal. You just need to roll your own build/run stuff.
- Comment on Who is this "Jenkins" and what now has broken him? 1 year ago:
More complex build systems are just build.sh calling other build.sh in different configurations and using different software. It’s build.sh all the way down.
- Comment on Raspberry Pis Found in Abandoned Spin Scooters in Seattle 1 year ago:
Free pis as far as I’m concerned. If they were ever gonna “recover” their assets they would have to track them down and if anybody has just the pi in their position they’d have to prove it’s one of theirs, probably by getting law enforcement involved. I doubt the city would be all that happy to help when they’ve literally just littered throughout the city and left.
- Comment on Jitsi meet...what are the advantages of self-hosted in this case? 1 year ago:
Everyone on a call in the meet.jit.si instance is made a moderator, so if you want to be able to control that you have to self host. Other than that if reliability isn’t a concern (not that I’ve ever seen that instance bogged down too bad) then you may as well use it. You can always host your own later on anyway.
