- Comment on Desperate TikTok lobbying effort backfires on Capitol Hill 8 months ago:
I stay largely uninvolved with social media apps outside of this fediverse project, but why is it that bytedance must divest TikTok while meta is free to keep Facebook and Instagram? Aren’t the risks to mental health and security the same?
- Comment on Film Companies Seek ‘Torrenting History’ Related to Redditor 8 months ago:
I thought Reddit was down to just sell data to whoever was willing to pay for it. Where do 5th amendment protections fall under that circumstance?
- Comment on Google gets its way, bakes a user-tracking ad platform directly into Chrome 8 months ago:
Advertising existed fine before the tracking part became an entitlement.
- Comment on Apple is officially dropping iPhone support for web apps in the EU - The Verge 8 months ago:
Welp, this might be kbin for me. It’s the only circumstance I’ve found a PWA necessary.
U.S. apple account, iPhone bought in Japan, and living in the EU temporarily. I’m curious how all this is going to play out for me.

Ads don’t bother me as much as their invasiveness. I block ads because…
- if a business is dirty enough to resort to interference with popups to get attention, I’m not spending money there. Period.
- I don’t want to support mass surveillance perpetrated by the industry.
Give me simple tech ads on tech sites, grocery ads on store fronts, travel ads on travel articles, etc.
- Comment on Xbox is still committed to making consoles, says boss Phil Spencer 9 months ago:
I’d say that’s because PCs have become more console like than ever before. I’m gaming a lot on a deck now, but I still have zero desire to hunker down behind a desk and fiddle around with a mouse and keyboard any more then I already do for work-related business.
- Comment on Xbox is still committed to making consoles, says boss Phil Spencer 9 months ago:
Yeah I probably would never have even gotten into gaming if it weren’t for consoles. PC games are fun, but gaming on a PC is not for everybody.

What do people actually use the flipper zero for?

These days Dr. Evil would still get laughed at for demanding the $100 billion.
- Comment on OpenAI wants to raise 5-7 trillion dollars. Yes, Trillion 9 months ago:
Do they even think about where in a functioning society those trillions are coming from? Do they think wealth just magically appears without affecting the wealth gap?

I'd like to use Jelly Fin, but it has not been a great experience for me on a Mac with an Apple TV. HDR doesn't carry over, some videos are blocked due to music licensing or something, and the library syncing doesn't always work. I'm not sure if it's a Jellyfin problem, a lack of support for Mac hardware, or just my personal incompetence with this sort of thing (very likely). I managed to get Plex to work without issue, so I'm using that even if I don't really like the UX all that much.

- Comment on The problem with standalone VR and "spatial computing" 9 months ago:
There's a calibration process that takes place after a set of Zeiss lenses are inserted and the code scanned. My concern is that this calibration process will not be triggered for any insert not made by Zeiss. It may not be a hard software lock, but it would suck if your AVP just didn't work as well just because you didn't buy from the people Apple wants you to buy from.
- Comment on The problem with standalone VR and "spatial computing" 9 months ago:
As someone who's been using apple devices for a long time, this pretty much summarizes one of my biggest concerns with the APV. The other being expensive, proprietary, and software-locked lens inserts. (Basically creating a proprietary tax for people with poor vision who want to be involved with spacial computing, antithetical to Apple's accessibility efforts.)

Steam link doesn’t work for external games added into your steam library? I’m new to steam in general, but it seems weird that they’d let you add a game and not use them with link.

That sounds like a pretty epic setup! Fortunately no one is forcing you to replace anything. You’re free to keep and make the most of what you’ve spent your own money on, just like anyone else.
Actually, I’m sure you more than most can appreciate why others who don’t already have a setup like yours might want to look at a headset as an option.
