Start with the newest: “Strange New Worlds”. It’s modern much in the way the older series aren’t, but it’s still very much Star Trek
- Comment on The first EV with a lithium-free sodium battery hits the road in January 10 months ago:
also it’s not a trivial task to engineer for swapable EV batteries, doing so comes with a whole host of disadvantages / compromises that don’t make sense for most (I guess) consumers right now. It’s not very different from the phone battery issue, except on a huge scale
- Comment on How have you personally found the Lemmy community compared to its competition and other social media? 10 months ago:
I think part of it is that some of the Lemmy crowd came over because they were banned on reddit for being hyper-disagreeable, rude, violent lil bastards
this wouldn’t be the first time it happens either
- Comment on Exoskeleton pilot project shows positive results 10 months ago:
it has been shown that the MATE-XT upper limb exoskeleton and the MATE-XB lumbar device can reduce users’ effort by up to 30 percent
I guess every little bit helps, but I thought they’d be shooting for something like 50+% at least
- Comment on Tesla driver who killed 2 people while using autopilot must pay $23,000 in restitution without having to serve any jail time 10 months ago:
do we need to go through the differences in training, aptitude and intelligence between pilots, captains and your neighbor Greg again? Marketing it as “autopilot” to anyone who can sign a car loan is reckless and has killed people and will continue to kill people until they stop

- Comment on Apple’s MacBook Pro memory problem is worse than ever 10 months ago:
yes, my opinion is that 32gb was the minimum spec for a “pro” system 5 years ago. Nowadays, if 32gb is actually enough as a minimum spec then you’re in “enthusiast” territory in my opinion, not “pro”. Perhaps that’s more telling about my standards as a PC enthusiast though, and about how far PC hardware has come
- Comment on Apple’s MacBook Pro memory problem is worse than ever 10 months ago:
32gb might have been “pro” 5 years ago but not anymore, not when a run of the mill 32gb DDR5 kit can be had for $100

- Comment on Automakers must build cheaper, smaller EVs to spur adoption, report says 11 months ago:
yeah most weather you can easily deal with by dressing appropriately and accepting that you’re not going to be 100% comfortable all the time, especially when the distances aren’t too long. That said, I did have to endure some horrid weather as a kid on my bike to school that I’m not sure I’d want to put someone else through
- Comment on Automakers must build cheaper, smaller EVs to spur adoption, report says 11 months ago:
Funny is that the way things have been going the last few years, if there’s a kit for your car, it’s probably based on parts from a crashed Tesla. Which is a good thing, IMO
- Comment on Elon Musk vows ‘thermonuclear lawsuit’ as advertisers flee X over antisemitism 11 months ago:
screenshots from a single source don’t prove much though, they can be easily doctored. Not saying that they are, but twitter could use that angle to make the case. That’s why services like archive.org are so important IMO, having an unbiased third party take a snapshot of a site that corroborates with what you’re seeing is gold. It’s a shame though that I don’t think archive.org can actually do this with twitter in this way?

there are plenty of celebrities far more deserving of a puff piece like this, but of course they don’t have as many zeroes so I guess bezos it is
- Comment on Jeff Bezo is now cosplaying as a working class man. 11 months ago:
of course, and everyone is free to have some glamour shots taken of them just for funsies, regardless of what they’re wearing. What puzzles me though is why vogue is posting this on their insta, but perhaps I shouldn’t judge because I have only a nebulous idea of what “vogue” and “insta” means

- Comment on Max users grandfathered into $15.99 ad-free plan lose 4K, HDR next month 1 year ago:
that you’re content with 1080p SDR doesn’t mean higher quality video is bullshit. However I will add that as video production quality has increased to make proper high quality UHD content, that has also increased the quality of the same content in 1080p SDR (in many cases). So depending on what you watch, the 1080p SDR content might already be of such quality that you don’t perceive a large difference between that and the UHD version because there isn’t, not just because you’re indifferent to it

the MX-5 is also one of the most raced cars out there
- Comment on Japan’s automakers are keeping sports cars alive in the EV era 1 year ago:
BEVs are currently definitely too heavy to be any good as a sports car, but I think you’re underestimating how good an electric drivetrain is. If batteries get light enough someday so that you can get decent range without the car weighing > 3000lbs, I bet there’ll be a BEV with your name on it
- Comment on Japan’s automakers are keeping sports cars alive in the EV era 1 year ago:
a small 2 door sports car, but it sure won’t be an EV. They’re not going to appeal to the part of the market who likes performance cars
Porsche will be releasing an EV in the Boxster/Cayman class and I think it’s going to prove you wrong by selling like hotcakes
