i know there were a lot of recommendations for tailscale/headscale (and they’ll keep coming because it’s the current market darling) but i’ve found netbird to be more ergonomic for my needs.

for my car and motorcycle, I have an older TomTom dedicated GPS that still gets updates and has routed me better than Google maps in the past. it doesn’t require a subscription, though some newer ones do. I think I can update it with open street maps if the worst happens.
I use Organic Maps on my phone, which uses open street maps. It works pretty well but I often need the actual address for a location as opposed to the business name or search won’t work.
I’m a Kagi subscriber so I try to use Kagi Maps in the rare instance that I’m looking things up on my computer. It is a bit more limited.

might as well be a solo game, though. my squad mates are as dumb as a bag of hammers 😆

The PC version of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. This game is super difficult for me but I’m having fun trying. It also tends to jump-scare me more than any horror game has before. Sadly, I can’t get GRAW2 to run because of weird Physx problems and Wine/Proton, so I might go re-play Ghost Recon Future Soldier for the Xbox 360 again after this one. I’m too busy to get to that this week, though.
I also scooped up a Fire Emblem Awakening cartridge last week. I might try to finish the last two chapters of Fire Emblem Warriors and then dive into that one. I’d play both at the same time but the contrasting speeds of the two genres might be a bit too much.
My “I have 10 minutes to play” game this week is BlazBlue: Clone Phantasma. I really enjoy the BlazBlue series (especially the 3DS release) and this one is the cutesy/chibi arena fighter version. Very simple and shallow but great for quick games.

I am surprised I never saw this one before. I used to play the TCG pretty heavily back in the early 2000s and would love this.
looking at screenshots from the PC, ps2, and GBA versions, I think I might hunt down a GBA cart!

I’m new to 3D printing so this might be a dumb question but does the water or moisture degrade the plastic? I’ve read a lot of posts about keeping your spools out of the humidity.

i started playing 3 because i heard the single player campaign has checkpoints. i don’t have much interest in multiplayer but it looks like lan support is still available. i have heard on some videos that people still play it in multiplayer by bridging the lan support across the internet.
I saw that ps rewired has a “socom 3 / combined assault” section. i do wonder if just vanilla socom 3 would be playable there because i think combined assault has different maps? at any rate, there were only two people online when i looked at that. it’s possible that it picks up on nights/weekends as opposed to 0800 CDT on a thursday.

Socom 3, Quake 2, Nano Assault (EX & original), Nano Stray 1&2, and Dead Cells… I still don’t know where the line between patient and retro is.

- Comment on Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week? 3 weeks ago:
It’s been generally fun but I am really bad at this kind of game so I end up lagging too far behind where the story wants me to be, so enemies teleport seemingly out of nowhere. I also can’t seem to identify where the alarms are, which makes it even worse. That’s a me problem, though.
If you like story driven FPS games with good art, it’ll probably scratch the itch for you. It’s not as much as an interactive movie as the games from the era of quicktime events but there is a little bit of linear play to it. Overall it’s pretty standard fare. I read a review that was something like “It’s not a great FPS game but it’s a great Killzone game” and I think that tracks.
- Comment on Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week? 3 weeks ago:
I just scooped up Killzone Shadow Fall and I’m enjoying it, even though the beginning part of the game was basically a half hour long movie disguised as a tutorial. I also got the Shadow of the Colossus remaster for PS4 so that’s next.
For quick sessions, I’ve gone back and started half heartedly trying to 1CC Danmaku Unlimited 2 since the new trailer for 4 just came out.

Started out trying to play F.E.A.R. platinum edition and Tomb Raider GOTY edition. I just don’t like story games… TR is far more story heavy than F.E.A.R. but both have plenty of cut scenes. I also feel like maybe TR was created during the peak of quick time events because the first half hour was just mash some button repeatedly to win the movie (the game uses the word “mash”, that’s not just me). I ended up playing Dead Cells and Gradius V instead. I suppose I just like more arcadey style games.
I finally finished downloading all the digital games I had for the PS4 that had single player content and disable the network connection in order to prepare for an eventual jailbreak, so maybe I’ll play DOOM 2016 this week. Never did finish it.

I’ve been back on COD Mobile this week. I’m just doing F2P. They had a collaboration with Gundam so that drew me back in. The Gundam TDM mode is really nice.
Contrasting that: I got SmokePatch set up with PES 2021 (on Linux!). I moved from EA FC to eFootball when it became too much like a slot machine. while the 30th anniversary stuff in eFootball looks cool, it’s turning into a slot machine as well. SmokePatch doesn’t have any mtx, it has great community addons, and it retained Master League. Enjoying the immersion of my favorite team, their stadium, and commentary in my preferred language.
If I get a little more free time, I’ll finish the last three chapters of Fire Emblem Warriors. I just worry that my team isn’t leveled up enough yet, so I might have to do some stories in History Mode first.

big fan. used it on a pi zero w that I had hosting my PiHole for years. when the hardware finally died, I just installed dietpi on a VM in my proxmox server and used it for pihole again.
sure, I could’ve used another distro but it only seemed fitting for this use case.

- Comment on Hypothesis: Modern retro-inspired indies are much more enjoyable than the retro games themselves 2 months ago:
I think nostalgia does a lot for those of us who were there. I don’t like some of the modern indies that build on the old games but I will admit they have some serious quality of life improvements.
Fast forwards, save states, extra details you’d normally find in a manual are in-game. Also, the controls are great. When I revisit some old games, I forget that we were really figuring out the best ways to use a controller and it was often very awkward.
The happy middle ground for me are when there are excellent ports of older titles like what M2 has done for a lot of games. Elevating the retro titles to modern platforms and adding enjoyable ergonomics.
