sorry if I missed something in your post, how about displaying QT objects ? the accepted way seems to use Python prettyfiers, so I tried to add them in a gdbinit file, however when trying to load them your snap spits out:
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:/opt/click.ubuntu.com/lomiri-settings/current$ gdb lomiri-system-settings GNU gdb (GDB) 17.1 Copyright (C) 2025 Free Software Foundation, Inc. For bug reporting instructions, please see: <https://www.gnu.org/software/gdb/bugs/>. Find the GDB manual and other documentation resources online at: <http://www.gnu.org/software/gdb/documentation/>. For help, type "help". Type "apropos word" to search for commands related to "word"... ❌ /home/phablet/.config/gdb/gdbinit:16: Error in sourced command file: Scripting in the "Python" language is not supported in this copy of GDB.is there something I am missing ? or is displaying QT variables not possible with this tool ? I the answer is yes, could Python scripting be added to the snap ?
Note that debugging works - I can setup a breakpoint and gdb breaks at the desired line. The problem is that I can only display native c++ variable values, not QT objects.

system components
as far as I know, it's not possible to debug system components without turning the rootfs r/w. I know because I tried to fix some problem, compiled a package with crossbuilder and found out that using the 'deploy' command of crossbuilder turned the rootfs r/w.
So it's not possible to install - and debug - Lomiri components on an UT phone without turning the rootfs read/write.
So the idea of using snap to install tools without having to turn the rootfs r/w turns out to be not so useful in practice when dealing with system components. It can be useful for debugging clicks.
