Hamtaro
News overlord Edwin first wrote about Danchi Days in the now distant year of 2024
I wonder if there’s some oblique reference here to the Overlord anime.

I can’t answer your question as I haven’t taken that step yet, everything is still confined to my LAN.
Here’s a similar thread from last month that had a lot of replies. Hopefully will be some useful info there for you. Good luck!
- Comment on Weekly Rrcommendations Thread: What are you playing this week? 2 weeks ago:
I’m being the most patient of gamers this week and playing WoW Wrath of the Lich King :D
Just got my server set up today. Now I need to set up addons and some playerbots to populate the world. There’s even a client with updated graphics for it which is sick.
After trying quite a few games that I didn’t get on with, I played so much of the Guildrun demo that I got a bit sick of it (it’s really good though).
I’m planning to try the Combolands demo this week too (it’s a roguelike city builder).
- Comment on What're you playing right now? 2 weeks ago:
I have put almost 30hrs into the Guildrun demo. It’s a PvE autobattler in the same vein as TFT, Autochess and DOTA Underlords.
Before that I 100%'ed Wayfinder which was really a better game than I was expecting. Was pretty darn good value for £3!
Now, probably today, I’m going to try to set up my own World of Warcraft Legion server in Docker or Podman.

Thanks Demigodrick for all your work! Thanks also to the other admins and moderators for keeping this place running!
I spend a fair bit of time here so I’ve set up a recurring donation to help out. Hopefully you’re able to break even on the costs.
Cheers

The games are from Itch.io. The initiative is just sponsored by Necrosoft. They’re DRM free games you download.

They’re DRM free downloads afaik. On Linux you would just run them with Proton by adding them to Steam/Heroic/Faugus etc I assume.

I played it entirely solo and had no issues with the highest difficulty dungeons or world bosses. I imagine it’d be a blast to play with other people but if you start on your own you can create another save slot to play with friends or just use a character you haven’t leveled up yet.

I finished all the achievements on Wayfinder. I really enjoyed it for what it is. It’s clear from some things that they ran out of budget/time to really smooth all the edges. What is there though is a fun action RPG with beautiful art and pretty satisfying progression.
I haven’t been sure what to play next but I just started Clair Obscur Expedition 33. Not sure about the parry/dodge system, it seems pretty anti-fun but I’ll give it a couple more hours.
If that doesn’t work out, I think I’ll start on the Yakuza games. I have Yakuza 0 and Like a Dragon, not sure which I’ll go for first.
- Comment on GOG confirm they are working towards GOG Galaxy on Linux 3 weeks ago:
Yeah, I tried all the stuff I could find online by changing the working directory and also repointing the target on Steam for the installer exe to the dlc exe to make sure they use the same prefix :(
Was just easier to download from Fitgirl, add setup.exe to Steam and run it xD
- Comment on GOG confirm they are working towards GOG Galaxy on Linux 3 weeks ago:
The only thing I want from GoG for Linux is a game download in 1 file instead of many. I spent an hour today trying to install the DLC for Yakuza Like a Dragon and it just would not detect the game installation.
Ended up downloading the whole thing from Fitgirl instead because it’s better service.

Here’s a couple of things to help you find your way around:
Lemmy Explorer is a great site to browse communities on Lemmy/Piefed/Mbin to join.
FYI everything on Lemmy is relative to the instance you are on. For instance if there was a community on lemmy.world called ThisIsAnExample (lemmy.world/c/thisisanexample) then to you (on lemmy.zip) it would appear as lemmy.zip/c/thisisanexample@lemmy.world and you would link to it as !thisisanexample@lemmy.world. Same goes for users.
You can see these icons on each post or comment…
The first one is a link to it on lemmy.zip. The second one is a link to the original post/comment on the users home instance.
Good luck!

Nice! You can even set up email notifications based on wishlist categories now rather than the whole wishlist.

Still playing Wayfinder. Now over 80hrs in and going for 100% achievements plus I have lots of character and weapon leveling still to do. Once I get all the achievements done I’ll probably slow down on it and keep the rest of it for when I have something to watch on my 2nd monitor.
I also played the demo for Guildrun this week. It’s a rogue-like auto-battler similar to The Last Flame and online only games like DOTA Autochess and Teamfight Tactics. The art is absolutely gorgeous and from the 1 run I did so far it seems to have quite a lot of depth. I’d say it’s quite similar to TFT so if you want a single-player version of that it should be to your liking. Definitely looking forward to the full release!

It has really grabbed me. For years I’ve been looking for a game that’s like a single player MMO and here it is (no, Kingdoms of Amalur is not the answer, sorry internet). No surprise I guess to find that in an MMO that was turned into a single player/co-op game after their publisher ditched them (Digital Extremes).
The combat is fun. There’s lots to grind for - weapons, armor, accessories, echoes, cosmetics, mounts, furnishings for your apartment. The art is quite reminiscent of World of Warcraft (and also of Airship Syndicate’s other games like Ruined King (also a fantastic game) and Battlechasers: Nightwar. The music is quite background but at times reminded me of Jeremy Soul’s original Guild Wars 2 score.
The performance is not great. With some research I managed to get it to run at 90-110 FPS consistently in open world (with an RX9070 and i7-9700k). In dungeons it runs better. There’s still some UE5 stutters there when you enter new areas and at some random moments but overall it runs well enough.
It’s gotta be the best £3 I’ve spent in a long time! I’m 55 hours in and there’s still a whole zone that I haven’t gotten to yet.

- Comment on Help choosing a good HDD for my home server? 1 month ago:
I’m not sure if 30 vs 24 dB is too much, but idk really
FYI decibels are a logarithmic scale so for example 18-24dB is a smaller difference than 24-30dB. That said, some HDD noise is noticeable to some people and not to others. All you can really say is that enterprise drives are loudest followed by NAS drives then regular consumer ones.

I started Cyberpunk 2077 but I’m not quite ready for anaother big RPG yet. Got Deep Rock Galactic and played a few hours. I also played some Heroes of Hammerwatch 2.
Mostly though I’ve been playing Wayfinder which has been a pleasant surprise. The art has some real WoW BfA vibes (first area reminds me of Boralus).

I just finished Avowed yesterday. I give it an OK 6/10.
Visuals and exploration were top notch. The music was fairly forgettable. The story was OK… IMO it had too much speaking in metaphors to be coherent at times. One of the companions was cool, I didn’t really like the others.
The combat felt pretty good (I played wand wizard) but got old as the game went on as there weren’t many new abilities or gear from mid to late game. The gear upgrade system was survival game level shit… open chests for 60hrs to get mats to upgrade. The gear itself was mostly pretty boring stat boosts. Unique gear is just better making all other gear useless. The uniques don’t have particularly interesting effects.
I’ll remember the world and the general world building fondly but not much else. Hopefully if there is an Avowed 2, the gear and ability systems will get more fleshed out.
Next up is Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time. So far i’ve spent 1.5hrs on character creation and getting the game to look good with a decent framerate with the help of OptiScaler.

Sure, but the vast majority of people aren’t going to do that. I don’t think it makes sense to say they can’t do it because 5% of buyers may act in a certain way.
I agree that all these companies are super greedy, the point was that even though they’re greedy they still sell at a loss on the hardware as it ends up making them even more money.

The game store that has so much of the PC market that people call it a monopoly can’t?
That doesn’t make any sense.

The real question here is if console manufacturers can sell consoles at a loss expecting to make up the shortfall with game sales, why can’t Steam? Gabe/Steam have billions and could easily do this. The only answer I can think of is greed.

I’m very happy with Kavita running in Docker. I’ve used it through the Web UI and KOReader on both phone and Kobo. All work great. I manually download books and fix the metadata on them though so YMMV.
