I agree that the underlying system needs to be changed. But what I’m arguing is you have a system that is not ideal, and you have bandaids on that system. For example, it’s very not ideal that restaurant servers depends on tips for a living. However, if you stop tipping without requiring restaurants to pay servers a living wage, aren’t you screwing over the server, not the restaurant? Or do you leave those bandaids in place and try and fundamentally change the underlying system?
I’m asking. I don’t know the history of how systems like this have been changed in the past. But the examples I gave, in my mind, were all systems in our society that are broken and have bandaid solutions. It’s not ideal that we offer better services to vets with PTSD, it’s not ideal that restaurant wait staff requires tips to pay rent, and it’s not ideal that student loans are required to pay for an education.

100% I agree the system needs to change. But what I asking is do you immediately remove the badaids on the current system? Or do you leave those bandaids in place until the current system is changed?
- Comment on Shamelessly stolen from Reddit 2 weeks ago:
I think you could make the same argument for other things. Why do you tip servers in America? Aren’t you just propping up a system that screws them over? Why are you forgiving student loans? Aren’t you just propping up a system that put them into debt in the first place?
- Comment on Shamelessly stolen from Reddit 2 weeks ago:
I don’t see how this is helpful. I guess you’re trying to remove incentives for joining the military? But really you’re just punishing veterans with PTSD. Keep in mind the military, at least in America, recruits what are effectively kids and then makes it a crime to disobey orders or quit. I’m not saying soldiers aren’t responsible for their actions, but also that kinda feels like punishing the working class for the crimes of the ruling class.

You get 3 accounts. Say you want to upvote something. You downvote in 1 account (randomly selected), upvote on another, and upvote on the third. So it’s net +1 and the only way to see how you voted is to piece together all 3 of your accounts voting history. Need more privacy? No problem, just use 5 accounts instead of 3.

So if a bad actor wanted to get aces to vote data, they could setup and instance and have it federate with any instance they want to extract votes from?

The cloud gateway max lets you use your own storage without getting one of their giant NVRs. I got the wireless doorbell. Initially I kinda regretted not getting the wired one, but once I tuned my WiFi I haven’t had any issues. But definitely go wired if you can.

I think I know exactly what is happening. I’m publishing 1.9.4 with a fix. This is the first update I’m publishing since blorp.lemmy.zip and blorp.piefed.zip were setup, so I’m not sure how quickly that bug fix will propigate or if the admins need to manually update. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Ubiquiti. Cloud gateway max (router + NVR) for $200 with no storage, add your own 2tb nvme, get a ubiquiti doorbell for $300. Little pricy, but simple to setup and all the footage lives locally on the cloud gateway max. And you can add more cameras later. The cloud gateway max is an excellent 2.5G router. Slap on a WiFi 7 access point for $200 more and you got yourself a killer home network.

Compact mode is on my todo list! Sorry for the delay. My intention wasn’t to mark the repo as being mobile first.
Depends on what you mean by improved. I’m pretty set on the current desktop layout, but there are a lot of small things that need to be improved: post/image sharing, private message loading is kinda terrible, missing comment search, lack of moderation features, custom emoji are missing.
If it’s those type of things, I would say expect improvement! If you want multi column scroll with post feed on the left and the post with comments on the right, Blorp might not be for you.
But yeah, I’d love to here what you are thinking!
- Comment on Blorp - A new front end! 5 weeks ago:
There should be a sort selector. On mobile it’s in the top right corner to the left of the user icon/avatar. On web, you scroll up to the top of the feed and it’s above the first post. I believe it defaults to “active” so look for “active” on desktop or a person running icon on mobile.

I have a bunch of accounts tbh. I try to test Blorp on as many instances as I can. For example, Lemmy.ml had a bug where they would block requests that didn’t append the clients name to the user agent. Wouldn’t have caught that quickly without testing it myself. And now I’m doing a lot of PieFed testing.
But I’ve been a zip user since ee shut down.
