Reject American bullying, embrace Chinese bullying instead.

Odds are you could live in a state that isn’t a dump like WV, without hitting income or raising cost of living much. That might be a better way to pitch it. I wouldn’t put it down to paranoia, people have a social and legal green light to openly be assholes again, as in 2016. If shtf WV will be a bad place to be.
- Comment on China's latest flying car prototype showcases a breakthrough in urban air mobility, offering a glimpse into how low-altitude flight could soon integrate with everyday transport. 4 days ago:
Maybe there’s a place for this with air ambulances or something, but in a crowded city I only see this integrating into buildings or the people below.
- Comment on Indonesian student detained by Ice after US secretly revokes his visa 4 days ago:
I wonder when we’ll get copycat kidnappings and murders conducted not by the government criminals, but regular American criminals. A huge number of these “arrests” are being done with plain clothes, no warrants, no ID, unmarked vehicles etc. We’ll probably never hear about it.

- Comment on I get that america is failing if it's duty to suppress the rise of fascist but did the rest of the world just put all its eggs in the america basket? 6 days ago:
Much of the world has had the choice of putting your eggs in their basket, or having all your and your descendants eggs broken forever/taken away. Same thing with Europe.

- Comment on How important is it that cans are clean when i put them in the recycling. 1 week ago:
A quick water rinse is usually sufficient, if even that. They get shredded and smelted so it’ll burn off drink residues.

What a terrible offer. Grab a modem yourself for $50 and schedule in two hours every one to two years to save hundreds to thousands instead.
- Comment on Airport face scans could replace boarding passes and check-in as soon as 2028 1 week ago:
I’ve seen this during boarding in the UK and US so far. Both times it was like a self service section at a grocery store- errors half the time holding up people and the gate agents having to fix the issue, scan themselves, or best of all, just go “yeah go ahead” without scanning anything.
Hopefully it will improve in time.

I wonder if they know what the hell they’re doing. Or maybe they don’t care or keep track, it’s just “how much can we get away with this time”.
This week will be telling, unless dates get pushed back again in both cases. I guess we see if rule of law is just openly gone now, without even the usual pretenses.
- Comment on gross either way, but do friends actually talk like this or would this be from people who are dating or something? 2 weeks ago:
People do all kinds of strange things on the internet.
- Comment on How to get rid of Whatsapp? 2 weeks ago:
Would it help if you told them you think Zuck is creepy? People often have a vague creeped out feeling about Facebook, Meta, and tracking. “I was messaging about (insert) here and started seeing ads for it on all my devices” might sell it and get them on your side.
Beyond that it’s the pain point of them installing another app to communicate with likely only you, so leaning on things they already have might work. SMS/MMS may be a viable alternative, or maybe Delta Chat if they’d be willing to share an email address.
It’s hard to deal with the saturation levels the big chat apps have so I wouldn’t rule out having to keep WhatsApp, unfortunately.

Big Pharma lobbies too hard for that to happen, it’ll be ok. I hope medication will help your situation.

- Comment on Power is not energy: why the difference matters [Technology Connections] 3 weeks ago:
kW/kWh aren’t commonly used outside of electrical applications in the US, so people are less readily able to quantify and compare in other contexts. Looking at a variety of natural gas companies’ bills, you’ll get volume multiplied by a therm factor instead of simply using kWh; horsepower for not just cars but even electrical motors and pumps.
I think the average person will have looked at their electricity bill and put the basics together about watts and watt hours. As for comparison with natural gas, I think he didn’t touch on the real metric people then turn to- cost. Depending on the state it can be much cheaper to use gas vs electricity.
