- Comment on Is it possible to design a (pen and paper) cipher that is secure against government cryptanalysis for at least 10 years? 5 hours ago:
Theoretically, if you made a new language based on English symbols, is it still just a cipher?
- Comment on What's easier to shoot, a bow or a firearm? 1 day ago:
Absolutely a gun. The thing they don’t tell you about bows is that you have to be the one to draw back the bowstring, and you need to exert enough force on that bowstring that your stored potential energy sends an arrow flying. If you’re physically weak, good fucking luck. Yeah, maybe if you’re strong enough or use a compound bow to reduce the amount of strain aiming is easy, but in my experience, it’s pretty rough getting to a point where you can conveniently draw, aim, and fire a bow.
Meanwhile, a .22 rifle barely has enough kick for a child to feel. A shotgun or any higher calibre rifle might give a teenager a bit of a sore shoulder. Movies exaggerate it a little bit, but it really isn’t that much harder than “point and click.” The answer is gun by a mile.

- Comment on anime that are built diffrent 1 day ago:
If you can get past the part where it is pure, unabashedly crass, Panty + Stocking & Garterbelt oozes style. Actually, it oozes multiple styles, as it’s more than willing to switch from a ‘chibi’ style, to an overly ‘high-res’ style, and even to real world paper mâché within a single episode. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before, and certainly “built different.”
- Comment on What’s the difference between pansexuality and bisexuality? 2 days ago:
There’s a lot I don’t really like about pansexuality, which is why I don’t use the label. In my head, a transwoman is a woman, and a transman is a man, so I don’t see any difference in my love for them than my love for a cis woman or a cis man. Non-binaries fit outside that spectrum, for sure, but they’re still people with masculine and/or feminine traits, and I don’t understand why there needs to be an extra label just to include them. Shouldn’t they be included always? I guess the biggest thing that would be excluded would be people who don’t show either masculine or feminine traits. I’ve never met or seen one, so I guess I don’t know if I can be attracted to one, or if the distinction even exists.
I understand that other bisexuals may have different tastes in their partners, but we don’t have different labels for each level of masculine/feminine attraction. The bisexual who prefers femme men and women is considered just as bisexual as the one who prefers masc men and women, or the one who likes both traits equally. I just don’t understand why there’s an implicit exclusion of trans people from that attraction, such that we need a new label to add explicit inclusion.
- Comment on How is Arcane the series based upon League of Legends, a tower defense game? 5 days ago:
Tower defense game is a wild thing to call a MOBA, but no there’s no real story in a given League of Legends match. The characters all have small lore blurbs explaining why they’re fighting though, and those small lore blurbs are what got expanded to Arcane.
- Comment on We're remaking Morrowind as a Skyrim mod. Here's a charity livestream we held on the weekend. 6 days ago:
Hmm, wonder how that’s going to be okayed. Also, didn’t they have voice actors? I’m sure they’re using original audio for at least some of it.
- Comment on BREAKING: Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego, sources tell Bloomberg News. 6 days ago:
I was thinking more like a Victor Zsasz or an Aaron Helzinger. Not top tier Batmen villains, more like the C-listers.
- Comment on BREAKING: Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego, sources tell Bloomberg News. 1 week ago:
Even if they can’t get the rights, it’s not like there’s anything stopping them from making a new original “boomer shooter.” I don’t need it to be called Blood 2, I just want them to make something high-octane and kickass again.
- Comment on BREAKING: Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego, sources tell Bloomberg News. 1 week ago:
That’s fair, I only knew Zaslav had been pushing hard for live-service games and will likely be the death of Rocksteady. Fuck Haddad too then. Why does Warner Bros employ so many execs with Batman-villain ass last names?
- Comment on We're remaking Morrowind as a Skyrim mod. Here's a charity livestream we held on the weekend. 1 week ago:
Same reason Skyblivion is allowed to exist; they’re making all the assets from scratch. Usually, the issue developers have with in-engine remakes has little to do with the modification of the engine, but everything to do with the mod team basically stealing assets from a different game. In truth, there’s no difference between Skywind and your favorite Skyrim overhaul mod besides the scope and scale of what they’re trying to do.
- Comment on Stop touching your stuff! 1 week ago:
Hey who said I had to have my hands full of my own penis? I don’t need to touch it to masturbate, and I’ve touched plenty of other guy’s penises. Is my “ladder to heaven” just going to be made out of every guy I slept with? Seems a bit sexist.
- Comment on BREAKING: Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego, sources tell Bloomberg News. 1 week ago:
I really hope these teams are able to stay together. Monolith was absolutely getting wasted by Warner Bros. Games, they’re way too good a studio to get stuck making brand tie-ins. Just more dogshit mismanagement from Zaslav though, Warner Bros keeps seeing flops but won’t address the problem.

- Comment on Why does most religion talk about their GOD being male? Especially Christains and Muslims. Is there a prominent female god that as big as the other two that I am missing? 1 week ago:
Because Abrahamic religions are kinda the Big Three and you don’t hear much about other religions. Hinduism has gods with female characteristics, a good majority of classical age religions feature female gods, lots of modern druids/neo-pagans/Wiccans revere an “Earthmother” or “Mother Nature” type deity. I’d even go so far as to say the Abrahamic religions are particularly weird for their lack of female representation.
- Comment on Do you find this compelling evidence to doubt the result of the election? 1 week ago:
The issue I have is that there is an incredibly corrupt, absolutely vile, but completely legal explanation for the massive difference in down-ballot participation; Musk and other billionaires flooded social media platforms with heavy pro-Trump propoganda. Easily influenced people were pushed to vote for Trump, but given no directions for how to vote locally, so they didn’t.
Should these votes be counted is another question entirely. I personally don’t view it any differently than vote buying, as these voters are essentially agents fulfilling their orders, but there’s nothing on the books that bars anyone from manipulating low-intelligence people from voting how they’re told.

- Comment on I’m planning to teach middle school Spanish, would casually mentioning having a girlfriend cause an uproar? 1 week ago:
If you are in a red state; absolutely not. Do not even chance it. Honestly, you should be trying to get out as soon as possible.
If you’re living somewhere liberal; ehhh. It depends. Current administration are shitbags, and all it takes is one of those lil fucks thinking it’d be funny to report their teacher to the feds. If your classes are such that you don’t think you’d have to worry about something like that, go for it. As someone who gets paid to talk to a lotta children, I don’t really tell them anything about me, but I’m not a teacher and being kind to kids isn’t in my job description.
- Comment on Will AI Startups End Up Like Blockchain Startups? 1 week ago:
I think you’re so close here, you gotta look further at the overlap. The venn diagram of crypto bros and AI bros is a circle. What’s happening is a constant cycle of out-of-touch business execs and fresh MBAs thinking they can print money using the hot new scientific breakthrough. Same as the Dot Com bubble, it’s all just new snake oil for the salesmen.
- Comment on Why Are People Surprised When Trump Actually Follows Through? 1 week ago:
There’s some interesting theories in this thread, but I want to bring up one that I don’t see talked about much; American democracy has been so dysfunctional for so long, the average American citizen absolutely assumes they’re being lied to on the campaign trail. Nobody ever believes a politician is going to accomplish even a quarter of the things they campaign on here. This is a big part of what made Trump so popular, with the line of thinking being “he’s an outsider, so he’ll be different.” The problem then becomes one of cognitive dissonance. On the one hand, Trump being an outsider should be a reason to always take what he says at its face value. On the other, Trump is a politician now, and as established, politicians always lie on the campaign trail, so why would you expect him to keep his promises?
I’m not going to pretend to understand how the average American is able to do the mental gymnastics necessary to maintain these two contradictory ideals, but I think it’s important to point out that a lot of his supporters grew up with zero faith in the democratic process ever helping them.
- Comment on Is there any hope for Ukraine to survive as an independent state now that trump is desperately wishing for a peace treaty with Russia, even bypassing Ukraine? 1 week ago:
Yes, absolutely. The Russian military is still a piece of shit using scared conscripts and outdated equipment. As long as the EU remains willing to fund the Ukrainian defense, they’ll keep fighting.
The real question is whether the EU will still be around. This weekend’s election in Germany is going to be of critical importance.

- Comment on Make your complaints heard about bad games, says Dragon Age veteran Mark Darrah, but "your $70 doesn't buy you cruelty" 1 week ago:
Yeah unfortunately it seems like EA is still operating under the directive of “We want the Call of Duty/Fortnite audience,” and DA:V is a game made to appeal to that audience. I’ll never understand why they spend so much time and money to acquire incredible studios like Bioware and Visceral just to tell them “Actually those incredibly good games you made were stupid, you should make games like this.”
- Comment on Make your complaints heard about bad games, says Dragon Age veteran Mark Darrah, but "your $70 doesn't buy you cruelty" 1 week ago:
It never effects executives or managers though. The whole problem with the current Western games industry is that the idiots who keep thinking up games nobody wants to play are the only ones who don’t get fired when their idea flops.
- Comment on Make your complaints heard about bad games, says Dragon Age veteran Mark Darrah, but "your $70 doesn't buy you cruelty" 1 week ago:
Have you played much of the rest of the series? DA:V is a perfectly adequate game with incredibly lukewarm themes in a series of pretty good games with dark and interesting themes. I think a lot of people, myself included, were hoping that after the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, EA would turn to the studio that made Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 and say “I want that, make me a game like that.” Instead, we got a serviceable fantasy RPG. Fine if you really like that kinda thing, but I’ve only so much time for those games, and it’s much better spent on Avowed and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
- Comment on So, is the USA screwed? 1 week ago:
I mean, the American Constitution is dogshit. The people who wrote it didn’t even mean half of it, and the other half became out of date about when globalisation took off. It’s not surprising nobody wants to defend it, the U.S. Republic has been desperately, desperately overdue for a revision.
- Comment on Marvel Rivals Game Director And Others Laid Off Just Months After The Hero Shooter Took Over The Charts [Update] 1 week ago:
We’ve officially gotten to the point where videogame layoff news has become so oversaturated that incredibly simple firings are reported with outrage.
- Comment on So, is the USA screwed? 1 week ago:
Pfft, this is almost hilariously naive. Unless you think Kamala Harris seriously had a chance of winning an 80%+ landslide victory, Trump’s election was determined when our Supreme Court made a clearly partisan ruling declaring Trump was an untouchable king. At that moment, it became clear that any contested election would be resolved by the SC in Trump’s favor, ala Bush v Gore in 2000.
I’m as disappointed as anyone else that he won cleanly, but Trump was inevitable. He’s been inevitable for decades. No country becomes fascist overnight, the American people have been voting towards this outcome since before I was born.
- Comment on So, is the USA screwed? 1 week ago:
Yes, and we knew this would be the outcome the second he won the election. I’m staying in the U.S. because my life is worthless anyway and I’d prefer death in glorious revolution than survival, but anyone who values their life should have started their plans to leave in August 2024 when it became obvious he was going to sieze control.
- Comment on But they are two bangin shirts 2 weeks ago:
I know what you mean, but I like to look good, so I have very nice clothes for work. It’s not just office drone, cuz I would go mad, there’s a lot of really cute colors and a couple of higher end tops. I’ve even got some ties and a lil dinner jacket for when the office has guests or the holiday dinner parties.
For me, it’s just the headspace of “I hate that I have to wear this.” The dress code is oppressive, and I’m told that I’m lucky. Apparently we were still full suit up until 2015. insane. and when I’m outside of work, I leave it 100% behind me. I don’t want even a reminder of it.
Absolutely though, going out in girlmode is 100% intentional and about conveying a message. I feel like it’s important to be upfront with my dates that it’s a huge part of my identity, and that they have to be interested in that if they want to keep dating me.
