It often makes up non existent vulnerabilities. I think it was curl getting flooded with fake vulnerability reports which drowns out real reports, esp because it can take time to parse through the code or run the poc

The average person just doesnt care about things as long as they are placated and their most base needs are met. Many people actively avoid or are angered by having to think for themselves (see the “its not that deep” crowd).
You end up with
- a large non voting population that just listens and passively supports whatever the most popular ideas are
- a small but vocal, fervent minority that drowns out everyone else and is backed by corporate interests. Typically these corporate interests are able to pay people to advocate for whatever they want, bribe politicians, whatever.
- A minority of people who tend to actually think for themselves, have more empathy / be less individualistic but have their voices, ideas and causes suppressed by the people in 2.
In the US, republicans are 2. and Democrats try to appeal to 2 since theyre paid by those same corporate interests when their voting base is actually 1. This leads to people in 1 who would otherwise have voted for them feeling like theyre unheard since the democratic rhetoric either appeals to 2 or denies the realities and actual popular ideas
Add on top of that capitalistic pressures on the average working person and people tend to become more selfish and individualistic, which causes ppl in 1. to just not vote if the democrats dont give them what they want, 2. to always vote republican because they fall for the propaganda, and 3. to either vote Democrat anyways as harm reduction or not vote because the Dems dont listen.
Really, it is the apathy of the more “left” party to what people actually want that pushes people towards anyone who will listen, which tends to be the more “right” party that will try to activate any fear they can and promise people the moon just to get a vote, even if they never have an intention on delivering.

Not owning a branch of government has never stopped republicans. They would rather get dragged out kicking and screaming. Democratic politicians have largely abandoned their voting base and claim their hands are tied and there’s nothing they can do, because they are too used to being able to just skate on through without much experience fighting from a disadvantage.
They can do things like organizing their voter base to fight back in constructive ways and pass local legislation, unify the party on voting for certain politicians, inform their voters about special elections, bills and places they can help out, push a more populist and or progressive agenda, and stop fucking abandoning and lying to their own voter base. They need to be willing to physically lead their constituents
Republicans are so cohesively brainwashed because the republicans have been targeting media and disinformation for decades. They organize extremely well at the local level, and are willing to do almost anything for power.
The democrats need to show equal fervor for defending democracy and they’ve just been cowards so far, telling people to just vote and tell their family to vote democrats, essentially telling us, “we cant do anything so its your problem and responsibility now”

Not to say that they probably don’t want to spend money on helping them, but it also may be too late
A lot of beachings started happening around the time that we started using sonar for detecting other ships and submarines. 50 years ago implies during the cold war. The loud sounds can rupture their eardrums or confuse them enough that they beach themselves repeatedly. Also it’s a possibility that the cause for the initial beaching hasn’t disappeared. Additionally they may only have the physical resources available to save a handful if any

- Comment on What do I do for my sister/her friend? 1 year ago:
The teachers need to step off and stop sticking her with them. From the given bullying and “I’m the only one who will accept you” type behavior, she sounds manipulative and her behavior will only get worse if the teachers force them together and she can isolate your sister. If this is the only reason they hang out, I would be telling the teachers to keep her away.
You need to go to the administration or call them and tell them that this is unacceptable behavior on her part, and on the teachers part to try and force them together. Also keep in mind that they might want to gloss over it and not create a problem and “kids will just be kids.” They should not be going out of their way to create an unsafe environment for her. If necessary, you may be able to file a formal complaint to then school district. If it comes down to it you might be able to sue the family for emotional distress, but id recommend starting with the the teachers first. Call the school and ask to speak with them I guess
