- Comment on AOL will stop offering dial-up internet service after more than 30 years in business 4 hours ago:
Is DSL not available in rural areas? That still uses the phone line and should be significantly faster. I don’t understand how people can still even use dial up, I don’t see how a 56k modem could load most websites in a reasonable time frame. I should try throttling my connection and seeing if it’s viable.
- Comment on The curse of ‘Disco Elysium’, the greatest RPG ever made 1 week ago:
Damn, RPGs peaked in the 80s for you. What did these games do right that nothing has done better since?
- Comment on The curse of ‘Disco Elysium’, the greatest RPG ever made 1 week ago:
Out of curiosity, what are some games that you consider contenders for greatest RPG?
- Comment on Nintendo sold almost 6 million Switch 2 units in less than a month 1 week ago:
How is it better than a steam deck?
- Comment on AdGuard is yet another app to block Windows Recall 2 weeks ago:
Those seem like niche things to hold on to. A 5090 should work just fine under Linux, what feature do you use that isn’t supported? Also a 9070 XT is capable of doing ray tracing. You don’t always have to have the absolute most powerful card.
I don’t have an HDR monitor so can’t say how well it works in Linux, but you can survive without HDR. Is a better lighting contrast that big of a deal?
- Comment on Nintendo can disable your Switch 2 for piracy in the U.S., but not in Europe, as confirmed by its EULA 3 weeks ago:
Switch 2 GPU is similar in spec to a laptop RTX 2050 with more vram and better DLSS, I wouldn’t say that’s mid range gaming PC.
I’d say something decent will exist by the end of the decade if Nintendo can’t stop development of emulators.
- Comment on How Nintendo locked down the Switch 2’s USB-C port and broke third-party docking 5 weeks ago:
It’s not the best selling console of all time. It had one of the best launches, but the PS2, DS and OG switch sold 160, 154 and 152 million. Switch 2 only has 5 million so far.
- Comment on Half-Life 3 Has Been Designed to be ‘The Final Chapter’, It’s Claimed 2 months ago:
I feel like people believe this because the next two movies were so awful. I’ve always felt like the force awakening was worse than the prequels. None of the good story telling from a new hope was transferred.

What would you suggest for better open world games?
- Comment on Wreckfest 2 | Early Access Release Trailer 4 months ago:
Gives me the same vibes as the wreckfest early access, hopefully they can deliver on their vision this time.
- Comment on Scientists move to Bluesky, transitioning away from X and Meta platforms 5 months ago:
FOSS stuff like lemmy and mastodon will never get past the first step, which is fine. they will just occupy a separate niche.
I wouldn’t say never, but fedverse projects will need to find ways to smooth off the rough edges. Also the more enshittifcation happens the more I think people will be willing and able to get past the rough edges. If any one of the services breaks through and becomes mainstream, it’ll provide a roadmap to success for other services and people will be more comfortable with the concepts.
- Comment on You can see who upvoted and downvoted a post by viewing it in friendica. 5 months ago:
I don’t think everybody knows that and at least here on Lemmy, it doesn’t show it by default like friendica. The fediverse doesn’t necessarily mean that all data has to be public. It’s just that it’s way harder to have a sense of truth without public data.
- Comment on Luanti (formerly Minetest) v5.11 out now with an in-game settings menu and better server browser 5 months ago:
I’ve tried luanti several times and I’m trying to dial in the graphics settings for best performance with the lack of in game settings menu was always a such a pain I’d gave up. I’m super excited about his change.
- Comment on EA releases another shameless IP flip with Sims 1/2 Legacy 5 months ago:
I distantly remember a guy who was dying of cancer, but kept up an absolute tirade against EA. There was so much ill will then, it would be funny if they made the same mistake.
I don’t know if you are talking about Total Biscuit, but you’ve reminded me of Total Biscuit.
