In a very traditional Afghan restaurant I used to frequent, if you ordered something really spicy, they’d bring you these small mint drops afterwards to chew on, no extra charge. Worked very well for me.

- Comment on How did we move from forums to Reddit, Facebook groups, and Discord? 1 month ago:
There are many forums like that, especially if you’re not limited to one language. Most of the ones I frequent have been around for 10 or 20 years or more, but kind of fly under the radar. ilxor being a very good example. AFAIK, the latter also adds only one new user per day. I’d say that’s a good thing, even though I had to apply several times.

Maybe another time traveler disturbed the shooter by slightly pushing him because what would have happened if Trump was shot dead would have been truly apocalyptic. Maybe we just witnessed the n-th time loop without remembering the other ones and this is the first one where the bullet only grazes Trump’s ear instead of blowing his brains out so now life on Earth as we know it can continue, and we can post about it on Lemmy.

I believe it was Marx who first observed that superfluous jobs, as well as unemployment, are inextricably linked to capitalism.
See also Marcuse, 1969:The absorption [i.e. disappearance] of unemployment and the maintenance of an adequate rate of profit would […] require the stimulation of demand on an ever larger scale, thereby stimulating the rat race of the competitive struggle for existence through the multiplication of waste, planned obsolescence, parasitic and stupid jobs and services.
- Comment on Remember when planes and hospitals had smoking sections? (Probably a lot of you do not). 4 months ago:
When I was little, I asked my parents why they don’t smoke and they just laughed. I didn’t understand why. Because 100% of the other adults I knew were smokers.

- Comment on Capitalists hate competition, especially when it comes to wages 6 months ago:
I use the wage filter on Stepstone because I don’t want to sift through more than 20 pages of job ads each week. Also, I’m seeing more and more companies asking for your expected salary when applying on their web page anyway. If they don’t, I just put in the number at the end of my cover letter. Cuts through the bullshit.
Sure, I’m getting an order of magnitude fewer interviews this way, but on the other hand, I’m not wasting hours on dressing up and preparing myself, potentially even taking a day off and travelling out to the fucking company because they insist on meeting me in person, only to stare into blank faces after having answered the final interview question about my salary expectations.
Rather recently, when I was in sudden dire need of a job, I could not pull that shit off, obviously, but I still managed to get more than in my previous job. Then again, it turned out to be the fucking worst job I ever had, by far, so there’s that, too. - Comment on Remember when the body washes contained literal micro plastics and were advertised as such? 6 months ago:
I was once offered a job peddling prescription drugs to GPs on behalf of several manufacturers. These marketing companies are mass-interviewing, you know. And so, there’s never a shortage of these hawkers, at all.
