- Comment on Why are doctors so hands off and unhelpful in the USA? 2 months ago:
There is some variation by state but in the US almost all licensed medical professionals are required to participate in continuing education to keep their license.

Blame Canada! It isn’t a real country anyway.
- Comment on Lemmy devs are considering making all votes public - have your say 2 months ago:
Kbin has upvote, downvote, and boost. Boost comes from the micrblogging side, kbin does both content aggregation like Lemmy and micrblogging like Mastodon. On the content aggregation side boost counts as 2 upvotes and it functions as normal for the micrblogging side. Kbin.social is the only Kbin instance I used, I expect that it works the same on other Kbin instances and on Mbin but I don’t know for sure.

Of is talking about accounts that upvote spam content. For the most part those accounts will be the spammer’s alts that will be posting spam when the current account gets banned. Blocking them while they are still being used for vote manipulation means you wouldn’t have to see their spam in the future.

That’s way too much work. I just logged into my original account on kbin.social and tapped on the activity button to see votes before that instance went down. If I want to see votes again I can set up an account on any kbin or mbin instance in less than a minute and do the same thing.
- Comment on What's the oldest game anyone here has played in 2024? 2 months ago:
Burger Time 1982
It was one of my first video games, we had it for the Atari 2600, and I have it on a RetroPi emulator. You are a chef and the stages are platforms with ladders between them similar to Donkey Kong. The platforms have hamburgers ingredients on them and you have to avoid the enemies and run over the ingredients to make them fall to the bottom. You have to build all of the burgers to win the stage.
- Comment on Could President Biden fully legalize cannabis before he leaves office? 3 months ago:
I doubt he’ll do anything much different before the election. Harris is going to try to run, at least in part, on the current administration’s record so Biden actions will be constrained by the fear of hurting her campaign.

Not really, the difference between left and right seems to mostly be where they want the government’s focus to be. Left wants to primarily regulate business focusing on reducing harm and fair treatment for workers while allowing as much freedom of choice to the individual as possible. Right wants to primarily regulate individual behavior enforcing their religious and/or ethical standards while allowing business as much freedom as possible. This is of course a broad generalization and the entire political landscape in the US has been creeping right for decades.

We’re not the only ones that can do that. Wolves, dingoes and other wild dogs, and hyenas are also persistence predators. All species of the Homo genus were persistence predators but we’re the only one still around.
- Comment on Why English language is sometimes "lazy", sometimes not 4 months ago:
The job application one should be pronounced with a long a as the second e. Despite the last e not being silent the u is still elongated. It’s a recent adoption from French. Even though they are spelled the same the two words are unrelated.

The USB-C set a new benchmark for the popular Apollo 11 comparison. With the release of the USB-C, your phone’s charger now is about 563x faster, can store about 75% more commands, and has about 2x the RAM vs the Apollo 11.
- Comment on Windows 10 reaches 70% market share as Windows 11 keeps declining 6 months ago:
I wish there was a modern supported version similar to XP. 7 wasn’t bad but it was the first version where they started introducing features designed for touchscreens and trying to use the same OS for desktops and tablets. They should have designed separate software for “full feature” computers (desktops and laptops) and mobile devices. I don’t think any of the subsequent releases have improved on 7 as far as the user experience. I’m a little surprised they haven’t released a subscription based OS yet.
- Comment on The Eurobean Mind Cannot Comprehend 6 months ago:
My mind can’t comprehend those walking and biking numbers. The walking is about 70 miles a day. That’s more than double the average distance of a one day ultra marathon done everyday for a month and a half. The biking distance is about 255 miles a day. Roughly 2.5x the average daily distance for the Tour de France. I want to meet the people who can do that.

It would have been a continent and a whatever Central America was when I was in school but the younguns nowadays tell me that Central America is included in North America now. And most of South America seems to think that North and South America are all one continent. If we went with that we could make a really long transcontinental path.
- Comment on What will happen to large companies once poor people have no more money to use? 7 months ago:
The lyric is “I owe my soul to the company store”. Sold requires a conscious choice, willingly entering into the agreement. Under a company script system children are forced into labor as early as possible to help pay the family debt. In less than a generation teenagers are given the “choice” to go to work or see their families already meager income reduced to cover “their portion” of the family debt.
- Comment on If Adams Apples are primarily male, why aren't they a common fetish? 8 months ago:
There is a super depressing story of a YouTuber named Leathersmokemi who died engaging in a similar fetish. Nick Crowley did a good video on him. I don’t know of a fetish centered on prostate cancer specifically but there are cancer fetishists and the fetish centered on terminal illness is called nosaphillia so it’s certainly possible that there are fetishists out there focused on prostate cancer specifically.
- Comment on I'm a US citizen, people in other countries, what do you think when you read stories like these about the US health care system? 8 months ago:
The 5 day work week is largely dead for the working class. Employers either keep nearly all of their employees part time to avoid having to give them health insurance or have weekly mandatory overtime to keep the headcount down because it’s cheaper to pay the overtime for 60-80 hr weeks than to give another employee benefits. We’re going backwards in most places that we had made gains.

I commented that I wanted to move Discovery out of main cannon a few days ago. It was controversial but the comment is still there and it has positive karma.

I like to imagine that Discovery takes place in the Kelvinverse rather than the main timeline
