- Comment on If the agreed upon age of the Universe is updated from 13 billion years old to 26 billion years old how does that affect Science and Astrophysics? 1 month ago:
Well they found a galaxy at 390 million years after the big bang, that according to current understanding should be billions of years old. That should do, I think?

Ok just to clarify I was indeed trolling in the sense that it was a joke. Judging from the downvotes it was too early and too subject to Poe’s law

This is the correct answer, but you forgot to begin with “uhm actually” so i can’t give you the point.
- Comment on IBM and NASA build language models to make scientific knowledge more accessible 2 months ago:
Let me mansplain this.
There are 2 main ways to alter the way llms like chatgpt respond: 1) training & fine-tuning and 2) prompting.
Prompting means feeding the LLM information in the form of text, so it has actual stuff in what you could call its “short-term memory”. That can be done interactively and only allows you to feed it a limited number of words.
Training and tuning are much slower processes and are used to build up the “long-term” memory and to give importance and detail to specific topics, or to reinforce some kind of trait, like tone or type of answers it can produce.
I’m pretty sure what ibm and nasa did was a round of fine-tuning with material in that area of knowledge, not just prompting.

IE sucked since the beginning, that’s not the reason it died.
- Comment on Painful day for tech titans as EU finally sinks its regulatory teeth into them 2 months ago:
Lol sure. First of all “lobby” is a very transparent euphemism for “bribe”. In second place the lack of proper rules in the US is creating behemoths that are very difficult to deal wIth. These companies are becoming richer than nations will be impossible to contain.
- Comment on Painful day for tech titans as EU finally sinks its regulatory teeth into them 2 months ago:
You are right, we should tax capital gains drastically so to disincentivise speculation, and force investor to rely on dividends. This would put a stop on the crazy run for growth we are experiencing as companies try to make their market valuation go up in this unsustainable eternal race to the top.

- Comment on Apple terminates Epic Games developer account calling it a 'threat' to the iOS ecosystem 2 months ago:
Also the app doesn’t run on the app store, so it cannot affect it. The store serves the app as a package that is then downloaded and executed on the user device

When you say “make it do x and y” who should be the person that does it? Without raising enough awareness of the problem, change will not happen. Te only way for it to happen is tjat enough people is pissed off and changes brands.

- Comment on We live in a post scarcity information society and we still haven't moved on from capitalism. 3 months ago:
Well I think it’s normal since the common meaning of the central word is misrepresented. Post-scarcity means there is no scarcity, which is not the situation right now. Also the title says “post information scarcity” which i didn’t now was a thing and that we still don’t have. Factually correct information is not very easy to come by nowadays, and not easy to verify. And if we talk about scarcity of goods and services we certainly have a shitload of factories but some key jobs are not automated yet and in case nobody noticed we have some serious problems with natural resources.
