Those are two great points, and I completely agree with both of em. The 2A thing, in the US, is just one of many tools the billionaire class has used in their propaganda machine to push the Overton window the way they have around the world.

Yeah, of course. I used to live down the street from a house for homeless men. I spoke with one of them that would hang out at the gas station every day and, according to him, they had to apply and be accepted on the condition that they would stay out of trouble. Did that stop them from busking until they got their substance abuse fix for the day? Absolutely not. But they were a lot cleaner and much more safe than people without that house. I also regularly saw a few of them cleaning around that house and a few square blocks of it. They seemed to feel the need to upkeep the place and it actually looked much nicer than most of the houses in the area, including mine. But yeah, helping people into homes is really just the starting point to getting a lot of people in that situation on track to a more stable living situation.
- Comment on What do you think the solution to selling progressive politics to young men is ? 11 hours ago:
I completely understand were you’re coming from. I grew up in an incredibly disfunctional/abusive household and left at 15. I’ve been pretty much completely self-reliant since then. I was mostly self reliant before that. My parents idea of raising children was occasionally popping in to feed us or beat us (sometimes literally) into submission. I don’t need any external input to come to my own non-shitty conclusions on things because I’ve always had to think for myself.
However, I was also extremely lucky to find some good male role models in early adulthood that completely changed a lot of my life, mostly by exposing me to new ideas, skill sets, and opportunities. I think, while you and I have been shaped by hardships in a way that makes us mentally resilient enough to feel like we don’t need that mentorship, most young men don’t have that and they’re really floundering without guidance. I also think that this ultimately stems from homophobic tensions drilled into men of the last few generations that told us that platonic close relationships and brotherly affection between men is unacceptable.
So, while I agree that right wing ideology isn’t the default for young men who lack positive guidance, it’s a completely understandable outcome when the only available guidance they have, in a world that leaves young people with so many important/big questions, is a highly curated machine designed to lure them into a downward spiral towards far right/ fascist ideology.

The 2A crowd brought us fascism by voting for literally anyone who told them they could keep their AR’s. Now we have fascism-lite with our government disappearing people unlawfully with plain-clothed goon squads, and the 2A crowd is on the side of the fascists. In other words, they were the ones screaming about the importance of the people being able to protect themselves from the government, for decades, and now that we’re in a situation were people actually need to do that, they’re on the sidelines cheering on the authoritarian government. A lot of people like me aren’t surprised at all.

I’m noticing that OP is insecure about people who are more curious/ situationally aware than them lol
- Comment on I'm gonna mute this one 12 hours ago:
Wow. I remember the way the right wing propaganda machine tried to spin that into a story of total cruelty. At the time, I assumed their version of events was bs, but never really looked into what the dem’s were actually doing. Converting old motels into homes for homeless people is an absolute no-brainer.

I didn’t say I was special. I just experienced the vitriol as an American. I can’t speak to other people’s experiences.

But also, please use deodorant and stop being so rude to American visitors in France. I get that a lot of us are shitty tourists, but some of us are just regular people who are there for work (and not paid as well as you’d think to be there for that work).
- Comment on What did Musk and Trump fall out over? 1 week ago:
I think that’s likely all it was. But, I also think it’s a little too convenient that Trump is done with Elon now that the dirty work has been done to line up manufactured support for their billionaire tax break bill. At risk of getting a little conspiratorial, it’s possible Trumps team actually planned to use Elon to do all the worst damage so they could cut him loose, after the fact, then blame him for the worst of the fallout.
- Comment on What did Musk and Trump fall out over? 2 weeks ago:
Bigger than that, I think Musk finally realized that Trump only holds up his end of deals as long as it’s advantageous for him. The rest of us have known that for as long as we’ve known Trump, but hey, being a totally legit super genius has its downsides, right? Anyways, Trump promised him a buffet of corruption, then got cold feet when he saw musks appetite. Even more than that, they’re two self-appointed kings of their own worlds, both with the emotional intelligence/maturity of a very traumatized teenager. With their levels of obvious insecurity, their arrangement was never going to work. I’m just glad their break up is as juicy as I thought it would be. :)

I was about to start playing runescape classic before it got bought out. I played it as a kid and have friends that have stuck with it since they were kids. Friends told me to hold off because this new company is raising the subscription price. Seems like another golden parachute scheme for some scumbag ceo is underway…
- Comment on No matter how many games as service flop, how many studios fail and close, executives will still insist on creating the next Fortnite, Overwatch, LOL, etc. 3 weeks ago:
I think you’re completely right, and I also think they’re work-shopping ways to make their live service concept work. In other words, mature gamers wholly rejected live service money grab games as a concept, and the corporations have decided that instead of accepting that and moving on, they’re going to try to jam as many slightly tweaked iterations down our throats as they can until something sticks. IMO, this is the product of companies being run by golden parachute hopping capitalist predators.

- Comment on How likely is it that Trump will be the first President assassinated since Kennedy? 2 months ago:
No, one doesn’t have to entertain any such notion. And, one speaking like a monk doesn’t make one sound mysterious or intelligent…
What you’re essentially saying is, we should let something terrible continue to happen, causing many real people (often children) to actually die, because some people are paranoid about something that isn’t happening… In reality, government’s need they’re civilians. Especially in late-stage capitalist societies were civilians act as value generators or cannon fodder for the ruling class. The more people they have to feed into their profit machines, the better.
There are many counter arguments to the sentiment you shared that show how silly your stance is. I won’t waste my time writing all of them because I think you’re too steeped in your own soup to consider anything that counters what you already believe.
- Comment on How likely is it that Trump will be the first President assassinated since Kennedy? 2 months ago:
As an American, the craziest thing about that story is that Australia changed their gun laws after that happened. Imagine a government taking reasonable action to save lives… Wild.
- Comment on Based on a true story 2 months ago:
A lot of us wage slaves live in areas that are too spread out to bike, have no public transportation, and we can’t afford to move to a higher COL area that has those amenities. For example, my commute to work is typically 70ish miles, one way. There aren’t better job prospects within my niche industry that are available to me. I’m working towards moving closer to work, but I’ll be moving to a smaller town that is even less bike-able/walk-able. IMO, your position requires an amount of privilege I don’t have.

The Texas grid is just better.
As a Texan who has lost power, for weeks at a time, 4 times in the last 10 years, I disagree. I live near a major city and we lose power almost every time there’s strong wind, rain, or sub-freezing temps. Maybe you’re just lucky to live where you live? I’ve lived all over my city, and it’s surrounding suburbs, and it’s been pretty much the same everywhere.
