As someone living around the Timmins area, we’ve imported some hot climate individuals and still have room, send them up! The Northlander should be running by then /fingers crossed/

I’ve got quotes for a $30k bispectral. I’m really hoping I get to order one, but I highly doubt it…

“Not bad” potato salad is still potato salad. If it was “pretty good” it would’ve been 3 plates.

I only don’t hate this because I love frogs. If the spider lives frog too, then I can tolerate it.

Good luck trying to get money from a Galapagos tortoise! Reincarnating as a long lived and endangered (?) species, the new gamble!
- Comment on Can you manage your house with a local, no-cloud voice assistant? Mostly, yes. 9 months ago:
I have a workday routine setup to turn specific lights on for set stations. If my bathroom vanity and kitchen lights were capable of taking smart bulbs, I wouldn’t have to touch a light switch in the morning. It also means I don’t have to fumble in the dark, half asleep.
I also have another similar routine but for when my wife gets up with the kids for school.
Being able to let the kids keep a light on but at 1% brightness is glorious, because it’s a nightlight they can’t pull out of the wall.
Mood lightning in not just brightness levels but also colours.
Granted half of what I said is capable without a voice assistant.
Also I discovered that simulated grey light is a thing and it’s awful… But I learned that because of my voice assistant.
- Comment on Councils call for pavement parking to be banned across England 9 months ago:
Ya but your argument is also expecting public space to be given to you to the detriment of others. It’s a double edged sword.
“Park on a different street” literally just shifts the problem.
If a public parking lot was available then ya, totally feasible, but it’ll have to be big which then takes up the land from something else, again shifting the problem.
You’re getting upitty with someone who is concerned that knee-jerk public policy is going to have large, likely unplanned, detrimental effects on the citizens outside of just themselves.

I use Google at work on a regular basis. It’s taught me a lot about using powershell to get stuff done faster, how to use rox and ios cli more efficiently, and ChatGPT taught me how VTP works because sometimes Google isn’t enough when you’ve no idea what you’re doing in the first place.
- Comment on A good deal of IT work, too 11 months ago:
This wasn’t all that long ago though. I’m only in my 30’s and was told this in elementary school in the 90’s and early 2000’s. The iPhone was first released only 16 years ago.

I’m betting your house used to have a 2nd bath or was going to get one but was abandoned. The fan was likely the bathroom 2 or possibly a range hood.
All brown wires is definitely what’s incorrect. Hot, neutral and ground should be easily identified at a glance (black or red for hot, white for neutral, green or bare copper for ground where I am). I’ve only ever seen brown sheathing on older fabric or paper insulated wiring.
I am not an electrician and this isn’t advice.

The weirder thing is I was replacing a users desktop the other day and updating default apps. Edge did its usual “pleas love me” bit but then so did Windows Mail as I was changing it to Outlook 365 of all things…

- Comment on Will it ever get to a point where data is so over-harvested that it starts to lose value? 1 year ago:
It’s getting weird. I’m suddenly seeing a lot of things pretending to not be ads but specifically referencing my age or things generally blanketed to my age group. But weird things like life insurance and dick pills. Stuff I’ve never searched before because I already have employer provided insurance and my shmegan works as intended.

Must be an age thing. Mid 30’s and I can’t fathom why this is a thing based on the description in this thread. It just sounds so voluntarily invasive, like leaving your door open.
