I think both of those are perfect suggestions. Being a huge nerd with a strong moral compass, zip seemed to be one of the more similar to lemm.ee. I also heard piefed has some good policies and features!!
Thanks for the links!

You’re awesome. That sounds like a great project. What are you thinking of moving to for an instance so I can look for the community?
- Comment on lemm.ee is shutting down at the end of this month 4 days ago:
This instance will live on. Definitely understand the burnout and hope @sunaurus@lemm.ee and the other volunteers here stick around.

I’m sorry to hear about your health issues. I don’t know shit about dick, but if there’s some way a 10 yr sysadmin could do to help out, please let me help! I’m a big hoarder of data and don’t believe information should be gatekept or lost if it can be saved.
For posterity’s sake, please don’t abandon hope in keeping your labor of love alive!

Here here. This was a special place and I’m glad it existed and I was part of it, too. I wish the admin(s) nothing but the best and hope they stay on Lemmy as one of us reg. users!

YOU DID THIS TO US!!!
In all seriousness, I’m sorry your community is going away. What kind of stuff was it for? Radio as in AM and FM? Ham? Frequencies for radio waves? Aliens?
Let me know where you end up and I’ll subscribe! I finally convinced my wife to join Lemmy on .ee. It is unfortunate that she’ll have to pick a new instance, but I get it why the effort outweighs the benefit of running an instance.

I can’t make my Mini-mouse with hunky Millhouse crossover sex art without a C&D and psychology recommendation, but sure, these rich assholes can steal the works of others. Somehow their business is more important than the rights of the people that they would definitely sue if you showed more than 3s of copyrighted work that they owned…
- Comment on Where Have All My Deep Male Friendships Gone? 1 week ago:
I was a firm believer that all the really close personal guy friends I’d ever had, I made in high school or before. The idea that as an adult male that I could expect to make another real bond with anyone new, outside of this circle of old friends, was impossible. Until it did. In my mid to early 30s, my dept. merged with his. We had talked a few times while making fun of clueless users forgetting their passwords, so I already knew we would get along as coworkers. He was a groomsman at my wedding many years later.
I know it can seem insurmountable to find meaningful male friendships in mid-upper 20s and 30s, but it does happen. I’m rooting for you friend. Take care of yourself.
- Comment on Mozilla is shutting down Pocket, their read-it-later and content discovery app, and Fakespot, their browser extension that analyzes the authenticity of online product reviews. 2 weeks ago:
Switched to LibreWolf after seeing the message about Fakespot. It was a heavily used browser add-on I used almost religiously since 2020. Mozilla acquired them in 2023 and then did nothing with it, letting it die. I’m so tired of this bullshit.
- Comment on When will all the folks complaining about loss of Snap and health insurance realize the GOP wants us to die and has ZERO empathy for fellow Americans? 2 weeks ago:
As long as others (e.g. brown people) have it worse, and their tribal mindset remains fueled by rhetoric that they are right and everyone else is woke, nothing will change.
- Comment on What can US citizens do to fight/prevent their country enabling genocide? 3 weeks ago:
Look, we don’t just elect anyone, here. How many pussies have they grabbed? How many bankruptcies? These kinds of things are the bedrock of our election standards, established in 2015, and cannot, in good conscience, be unanswered.

We trained my 5yo son to go “woah woah woah woah woah woah woah” in a similar voice to that robot, and it’s so funny how he chooses to use it. He is also our favorite Pixar character, also!

- Comment on Consumers make their voices heard as Microsoft's huge venture flatlines in popularity 1 month ago:
Corporations have always hated labor because it’s always their highest cost. It’s why layoffs are the first to be used, and usually the largest way, to cover up bad profits for shareholders. Anything that allows a corporation to cut labor costs, even at the expense of their entire service offering was bound to be adopted as thoroughly as possible, regardless of public sentiment. They keep hoping more data will be the key to get AI to replace the cost of having to pay workers!
Thing is, last I read, humans have not produced enough written works (in all of human history) to make AI good enough to replace labor.

- Comment on Trump Threatens 104% Tariffs on China as the Mad King Plays Chicken With the Global Economy 1 month ago:
The Trump administration looks like when a new manager takes over a functional team, doesn’t know how anything works, can’t be bothered to try to understand, and just starts breaking established processes to prove that they’re in charge.
Except in places I’ve worked where this happened the new boss was on probation and could more easily be let go for poor performance. We tried something like that with tRump with two impeachments.
There’s no such thing as a recall election for the president, at least not for 4-years. And that’s a long time from now. Took only 80 days to get here from inauguration. We, and the global markets, will never recover if they leave it to us to fix it. Rest of the world can go on without us.
