- Comment on Consumers make their voices heard as Microsoft's huge venture flatlines in popularity 2 days ago:
Corporations have always hated labor because it’s always their highest cost. It’s why layoffs are the first to be used, and usually the largest way, to cover up bad profits for shareholders. Anything that allows a corporation to cut labor costs, even at the expense of their entire service offering was bound to be adopted as thoroughly as possible, regardless of public sentiment. They keep hoping more data will be the key to get AI to replace the cost of having to pay workers!
Thing is, last I read, humans have not produced enough written works (in all of human history) to make AI good enough to replace labor.

- Comment on Trump Threatens 104% Tariffs on China as the Mad King Plays Chicken With the Global Economy 2 weeks ago:
The Trump administration looks like when a new manager takes over a functional team, doesn’t know how anything works, can’t be bothered to try to understand, and just starts breaking established processes to prove that they’re in charge.
Except in places I’ve worked where this happened the new boss was on probation and could more easily be let go for poor performance. We tried something like that with tRump with two impeachments.
There’s no such thing as a recall election for the president, at least not for 4-years. And that’s a long time from now. Took only 80 days to get here from inauguration. We, and the global markets, will never recover if they leave it to us to fix it. Rest of the world can go on without us.

You mock, but like most seafarers, they had a strict code of conduct that was pretty much the law of the

Just finished playing Still Wakes the Deep and your character will do this. What’s cool is it’s not a scripted thing most of the time. If you jump from a height, he might yell out,
Oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck!
As you run toward the ledge to jump. If he has a rough landing, he’ll grunt and say something like,
Holy fuck, that hurt
I know it’s not scripted cause, and without spoilers, it’s a game where you will fall to your death a lot! So restarting checkpoints is common. Good game though!

Best shift I ever worked was 4x10s overnight. I would do it again in a heartbeat if my current employer allowed it.
Not sure about others, but I always have a burst of motivation about 2-hrs after lunch. Usually, this mental focus is shattered by the ending work day. If I could work two extra hours, complete the focused thing I’m working on, and have a whole other weekend day why would I not take it?
- Comment on The State of Lemmy (drama) 3 months ago:
You might be on to something with the demographic make-up of the platform. There are a lot of users from countries outside the US and for Americans used to seeing the opinions, primarily, of other Americans being the norm, it can seem like an attack on the country and their colossal fuck-ups recently are an attack on Americans, themselves.
It seems similar to the backlash felt by a lot of minorities when given rights closer to, or equal of, whites in this country. I don’t have a pony in this race, but it seems this is just human nature. We just don’t like competition and American exceptionalism is ingrained in almost every school book we are presented with.
That being said, I think you could point to some people being assholes to others. Just as I don’t blame all citizens of Jerusalem for the genocide in Gaza, nor all Russians for the invasion of Ukraine, nor all Americans for tRump, I think some people equate the citizen with the government like some sort of sports rivalry or deeply ingrained tribalism.
This is, however, just the opinion of an American who took off their rose-colored, exceptionalism glasses a long time ago.

- Comment on Grr Windows 5 months ago:
To turn away from the “go hard onto Linux,” tropes, try Windows Update Blocker (WUB). I’ve been using it to pick when my machine, as well as friends and families machines, update. Every month or so, you need to turn updates back on by using it and updating the OS, but it can be scripted to enable/disable updates at any time, if you don’t feel like thinking about it. It not only blocks if but protects from reenabling updates by that fucking medic service that will try to turn it back on when the machine is idle.
- Comment on Seeking feedback: how should lemm.ee move forward with external images? (related to frequent broken images) 6 months ago:
Thank you for running a great instance. No notes. Except it would be nice if you could set the limit on how long a proxies image remains available. It would be nice if there was a time limit that could be shortened based on time. Or a combination of the first and second option.

The wealthy in this world are just like my 4yo, they just want instant gratification. No amount of justification or considerations matter when your soul purpose is to get as much as possible while you can and fuck everyone else! The race to the bottom continues!
