- Comment on HP CEO: You're 'bad investment' if you don't buy HP supplies 9 months ago:
Yeah, my first color inkjet was an HP and it was an absolute workhorse. I had a graphic design business and I remember printing 1500 4-page newsletters for a client who couldn’t wait for a regular printing press due to a deadline. I stayed up all night feeding paper into that thing and had to change the black ink cartridge twice, for about $50 each, during the whole ordeal. I loved that printer. When it finally died after 15 years or so, I tried to find another HP that could do the job. What a mistake. Current models are hot garbage.
So now I have an Epson Ecotank which I bought three years ago and literally have not yet had to purchase additional ink past the first set of bottles that came with it. Sadly, the photo printing quality is not as good as the old HP, but for my purposes it is perfect.
- Comment on Google Search Really Has Gotten Worse, Researchers Find 9 months ago:
Anecdotally, I recently had an issue with my printer and used Google to search for the exact error message (something like ’ “error 4308e ink absorber pad is full” Brother JW539DW ') and the first three pages of results were random garbage about other things. If other search engines are worse, we are doomed.

Just today I was searching for a news article about a local radio personality who got fired in the last few days. Zero results. Just extraneous garbage. I was stunned.
- Comment on Solar rooftops gain traction as electric vehicles owners look to skip paying for electricity or gasoline: ‘Solar just makes sense’ 10 months ago:
This. I haven’t pulled the trigger on solar because I don’t know which company to trust and I am not confident any of them will be around to repair or upgrade the equipment in a few years.
- Comment on Researchers fear the British spoken 'r' is ready to roll away from the last bastion of rhoticity 10 months ago:
Except when the next word starts with a vowel. Then they add extraneous “r” sounds.
- Comment on Does anyone else feel like 90% of the population is stupid? 10 months ago:
There seems to be a shortage of critical thinking and problem solving skills, that’s for sure.
What I see that makes it worse now than in the past is the Internet. It’s easy now to find a group that agrees with your delusions and live in an echo chamber where mistaken beliefs are not challenged.

As an adult with Android, I can say this is real. I was on Safari in Africa and everybody else with me had iPhones. They were airdropping pictures to each other and I was reduced to begging for somebody to email them to me.

You refill the tank with bottles of ink. I haven’t yet had to buy more bottles after two years. They are inexpensive.

- Comment on When is it okay to drop out of college? 11 months ago:
My son dropped out for a couple of years after his father died and he was failing everything due to depression. He worked a delivery job and paid off loans, then went back and finished. It was easier when he went back – two years of maturity and working for a living made a big difference. I think if you focus on paying off your debts and saving, you will find in a few years that you are motivated and ready for success.

“Idiot” has not been a medical term for decades. It no longer refers to a particular diagnosis. Nobody who is not an idiot thinks “idiot” in its current incarnation is ableist. See also: imbecile, cretin, crazy, bonkers, etc.

We really need to add textbooks into that. It’s absolutely a crime to charge hundreds of dollars for a book that cannot be resold.
- Comment on Automakers must build cheaper, smaller EVs to spur adoption, report says 11 months ago:
My city (Houston) had a bus system that goes everywhere, but the sheer size and the lack of logical routing makes it hard to use. My friend could drive 20 minutes to work (but cannot drive because of a mental disability) or take multiple buses for 3 hours each way. She now rides an e-bike, but it still takes nearly an hour and she is literally risking her life because there are no bike lanes. Plus the cost of the bike was $3000 and it regularly needs maintenance.

- Comment on Automakers must build cheaper, smaller EVs to spur adoption, report says 11 months ago:
Personally I have the grace of Jar Jar Binks. My last few forays on a bike, when I was younger and less frail, were disastrous. Proponents of E-bikes must be very young and fit, I guess? Because all of us older, disabled, or just plain clutzy people need four wheels and walls of metal between us and the world.
Having said that, I wouldn’t mind having a glorified golf cart to run around town. Seal me in from the weather and give me AC and Bluetooth, that’s all I ask.

This. For most of my trips I could use a glorified golf cart.

As a cis-het woman I do not feel one ounce of sexual arousal when seeing a “hot” woman, although I can definitely acknowledge her striking beauty. It’s hardly “god-like power and wisdom and serenity” but simply chemistry.
