Literally EVERY TIME it’s mentioned, someone assumes that a thing being a social construct means we should erase it.
That’s because that’s EXACTLY how you make it sound.

Calling things a social construct is a social construct. Leave LSD to the adults please.
- Comment on By letting the capitalistic class write the laws we let them dictate the morality of the country. 1 year ago:
Which is why it’s dumb to try to negate a thing like crime by saying it’s a social construct. The language we are using to talk about it being a social construct is a social construct. Literally YOU are a social construct, but here you are, worried about “wage theft” which is also a social construct. So do things being a social construct matter or not because if not, lets stop trying to negate anything we don’t like by calling it a social construct, and if so lets apply it evenly and take it to it’s logical conclusion. I would say “reject society, embrace monkee” but rejection, society, embracement, and monkee are all social constructs.

Crime is a social construct = wage theft is a social construct, and according to the law of internet arguments something being a social construct means it doesn’t matter and/or it’s dumb to complain about it, so don’t worry, it’s all fine.

Lol. I remember when Trump said he was going to ban it and everyone was like nooooo. This is so concerning for free speech. Now that it’s not Trump doing it, everyone says: Great, everyone should ban it.

You’ve got to be kidding.
- Comment on Tech bros' attitude to female colleagues stuck in dark ages 1 year ago:
I’m sure they do and it’s misleading stat. These studies always find a way to get the result they want instead of the one that’s honest.
- Comment on Tech bros' attitude to female colleagues stuck in dark ages 1 year ago:
This article and study seems pretty toxic to me. Acting and talking like these human beings are lab rats in order to push an agenda. Seems incredibly sexist in my eyes.
- Comment on Another 62 ‘Girls Do Porn’ Victims Sue Pornhub for $600 Million 1 year ago:
Many of these women did this continually. Read the article: it says they were told it wouldn’t be posted on online. These women were more than happy to have sex on on film for money, they are just unhappy others found out about it. That is breach of contract but it isn’t rape.
It says some of the women were violently abused which is totally fucked, that potentially is rape, but this suit includes both those groups and the difference is important. And the offenses are a world of difference between them.

women are going to start saying they won’t match with guys who aren’t subscribing to this. I guarantee it.

But it’s funny how people never care about nuance when they’re trying to make a point…only when someone else is trying to make a point.

- Comment on Most of My Instagram Ads Are for Drugs, Stolen Credit Cards, Hacked Accounts, Counterfeit Money, and Weapons 1 year ago:
Where I live it’s largely the same though on facebook marketplace and not on instagram. Counterfeit money, weapons (which are almost completely illegal where I live, even basic non-lethal things like pepper spray and tasers) and more than anything prostitution. The thing is, these are “sponsored ads” which are all supposedly screened and approved manually. Also you can report them and Facebook won’t take them down.
Before someone suggests it cause I’ve seen this response a couple times in this thread already: No, I am not searching those things or related products on Facebook or elsewhere on the web.
- Comment on Hexbear federation megathread 1 year ago:
Already commented once but wanted to add: After my interactions with hexbear and the aggressive and disproportionate way they responded, I was legitimately left feeling my personal irl safety could be in danger.
Lemmy in general and Lemm.ee specifically should not be a place where users are left feeling like that over innocuous statements or opinions.
Defederate.
- Comment on Hexbear federation megathread 1 year ago:
I initially started using lemm.ee when joing the fediverse. Once you federated hexbear I left for lemmy.world within days, not really because I wanted to but because I felt I had to. I was being harassed because of a single comment that received over 100 responses. None of them were constructive arguments or legitimate discussion, all just trolling and insults. Lemm.ee is not usable anymore as a result of federating hexbear. I’m sure I’m far from the only user who feels that way. If you want lemm.ee to continue to be a viable instance there is no other choice.
Think about this way: f they were acting this way while promoting fascism, you wouldn’t even have a discussion post, you would just defederate. Because they claim to be communist and left-wing (though their actually still promoting fascism) you feel the need to deliberate. Just do the thing that you already know has to be done. Stop dragging it out.

Dude, it was not literal. I’m not"exposed." grow up.

Google has stop paying attention to it’s own search commands. I can +search term in my search and it will still bring up the same results it brought up in the previous search that made me include the + in the first place, even when I know results with that term exist.
Also if it decides you’ve typo’d, it often no longer gives you the option to search for the exact thing you typed. It used to say “did you mean __________?” and you could click a link to search for the exact word it thins you mistyped. It now often doesn’t give you that option anymore.

Bing AI is like a whiny child. Worse than useless. I often can’t even get a single answer to one innocuous question before it goes into wilting flower mode and doesn’t want to talk anymore.
- Comment on Microsoft now has implemented "compare with Bing chat" button when you visit Google Bard in Edge 1 year ago:
Bing has got to the be the worst AI chat there is so I have a feeling this is going to backfire. It’s so over-sensitive as to be completely useless. It’s like what would happen if you let your average redditor write the results.
Prompt: Tell me Keanu Reeves 3 worst movies.
Bing/average redditor: I don’t like the term worst because it divides things into good and bad and all things are special in some way. I think all Keanu Reeves movies were great. I no longer wish to continue this conversation. How about we switch to a new topic?
…also Microsoft has been doing BS like this for a while. Search for chrome on Bing and the top result is a banner That says something like “Why search for chrome? There’s no need to switch.”

This doesn’t seem different from what many if not most major platforms are already doing voluntarily. Just replace the word “depressing” with the word “toxic” and suddenly everyone will support this.
