- Comment on Can an impacted reptile excrete ammonia? 5 weeks ago:
Stumbled in from /All. It’s been a long while since I had a reptile, but I remember that I would soak my boy in warm water if I was worried he was backed up. Lizard turds are usually white tipped black/brown blobs, so it might be a good idea to give your lizard a shallow warm bath to soak in
- Comment on Can I DIY water backwashing through my basement drain? 1 month ago:
Unfortunately I’m very rural,so I can’t shop around. I live in a city, but it’s a joke to call it that. A competing service would come from two hours drive away, to put it in perspective.
The only tree is not really in a position to cause the issue, and it’s also the wrong type. It’s at least 70 years old and a conifer, but I’ll check when I find a plumber anyway thank you

It’s literally a basement drain just before it exits my house. Everything drains before it hits this point, if that makes any sense? I have no idea of direction, because I have the corner house, but tbh if I pry up the cover somehow it’ll be worth exploring

I know you’re right. I just really didn’t want this to be the case after having to spend 20+k in two years of owning this hous

Mostly I was worried about trying to roto the line myself. I got nothing from routing the line from the upstairs

Yeah, there’s a reason that story lives rent free in my head 30 years later lol. Totally horrific, and also totally something I would do.

When I was in elementary school, one of my classmates went to the hospital because of those things. She was picking them out of her dog’s fur and putting them in a cup.
Unfortunately, her cup of water was right next to it, and she swallowed a bunch of these bastards instead of a nice sip of water.

- Comment on What am I doing wrong? [details in description] 2 months ago:
Leaf tips turning brown is usually water stress, which definitely fits with the plant shedding green leaves. I would try watering a little more frequently for sure. Lots of luck with your next one!
- Comment on What am I doing wrong? [details in description] 2 months ago:
It would help if you had some pictures of the leaves before they fell to rule other things out, but it looks like a blight to me. That spreads by spores entering injured plant tissue. That’s why you see the plant producing resin, it’s trying to block off the sites where leaves fell so the disease doesn’t spread to other areas.
It could definitely be injury from water stress, but could also be temperature stress if you have large fluctuations in anbient temp throughout the day. I kind of wonder if watering by placing the pot in a tub would be more beneficial? Plants will sometimes take up more water that way, but with the mix you have it won’t be staying in the substrate long enough to cause rot
- Comment on Do any "thickening" products actually work to prevent hair loss/thinning? 2 months ago:
I didn’t say it was safe! Just safer than minoxidil :) The oil is usually meant to be used as a pre-wash treatment, so it’s not going to sit on your head all day like minoxidil, further reducing the risk of contact with pets.

It’s also much safer to use around cats than topical minoxidil is!
- Comment on if you ever had to start consuming low fat dairy and cheese due to high cholesterol, did your ldl cholesterol levels decrease? 3 months ago:
My triglycerides fell a little over 50 points! Almost to a healthy level now.
My cholesterol total fell a little over 20 points, with small drops in hdl and ldl.
That’s about four months of abstaining from alcohol with no change from my normal “vegan” diet.
- Comment on if you ever had to start consuming low fat dairy and cheese due to high cholesterol, did your ldl cholesterol levels decrease? 3 months ago:
I went vegan and had no change in my cholesterol. I have never had a diet that was high in fat, so that didn’t surprise me. My doctor told me I need to give up alcohol for any change to occur. There’s definitely a genetic component as well, my dad and his dad seriously struggled with their cholesterol levels.
I had to abstain from alcohol over the summer because I started a medication that is hard on the liver, and I just had a lipid panel today. So I’ll find out early next week if my doctor was right lol
- Comment on Americans say they need to earn $186K to live comfortably — but is it enough? 4 months ago:
I live in an extremely rural part of the US on about $65k/yr. It’s absolutely not enough. I moved here specifically so I wouldn’t need roommates to pay my bills, but I’m looking at that after only two years into my mortgage anyway.
- Comment on to those of you wearing leggings, are the translucent bits fashion or function? 8 months ago:
It takes more time to cut and sew mesh panels into the leggings. Time and more labor. That could be a reason they’re more expensive
