Great strawman but no, this is not free speech, this is illegal content and laws exist to prosecute those who disseminate it. Free speech allows you to offend others … it doesn’t give you a pass to break the law.
- Comment on Living to 120 is becoming an imaginable prospect 1 year ago:
You can’t control how or even if you will arrive at old age but you can swing the odds dramatically in your favor by the choices you make when you are younger. Eat healthily, avoid hard drugs and tobacco, drink alcohol only in moderation and get plenty of excercise that consists of four categories: resistance (aerobic), VO2 max (anaerobic), strength and stability.
- Comment on Teach me some life lessons 1 year ago:
Some mistakes can screw up the rest of day. Some mistakes can screw up the rest of your life. Try to avoid making the former, but avoid making the latter at all costs. Hard drugs, an extramarital affair, drinking and driving.Think the consequences through before you do these things.
- Comment on What is your favorite programming language? 1 year ago:
SQL. The simplest syntax of all languages but can be amazingly powerful if you know what you you’re doing. (And frighteningly dangerous if you don’t).

For most people their choice of life partner is the most important career decision they will ever make. 500 bucks could be a smart investment if it improves the odds of hooking up with the right person.

Gmail’s UI is awful unless you are coming from the Outlook webmail client … then it’s freaking amazing.
- Comment on How do I tame my frustration toward my aging parents? 1 year ago:
My wife was horrified to learn that we put our parents in a home when they get old. She’s from Colombia and such a thing would be unthinkable.
Having said that I would never want my children to look after me. It’s not fair on them… they have their own lives to lead.
- Comment on Are smart door locks more or less secure than traditional door locks? 1 year ago:
A previous owner of my apartment had for some reason installed a high security door. It’s 5 inches thick with steel plates inside and has 3 separate sets of 3 locking rods like a bank vault. Not sure what line of work they were in but, really, good luck to the person who thinks they can break in here easily. Downside is there is no way to put a digital lock on the sucker.
- Comment on Watch a swarm of drones autonomously track a human through a dense forest 1 year ago:
“In the future, write the scientists in a paper published in the journal Science Robotics, drone swarms like this could be used for disaster relief and ecological surveys.”.
Yeah sure, tell me another one
- Comment on If the body's natural temperature is about 98 degrees (F), why does it still feel really hot when the ambient temperature is 98F? 1 year ago:
Another reason a fan works is because it increases evaporation of sweat. Evaporation involves a phase change which requires energy. That energy is extracted from the body surface. Without air flow the envelope of air next to the skin gets saturated meaning it can’t hold any more water vapor, so evaporation stops.

Also once an AI car is taught it will never do this again . Human drivers will keep on doing this.
- Comment on The world's largest chipmaker promised to create thousands of US jobs. There are growing tensions over whether US workers have the skills or work ethic to do them. 1 year ago:
Our company is like that, but you’re not going to get a call every night. Each person in our (small) support group does a rotation of standby one week every two months. During that week you need to be available after hours and have your cell phone on. The upside is that we get time off for working after hours and we get extra days off just for being on standby which more than compensates, plus we get good overtime pay.
- Comment on [HN] The Elite's War on Remote Work Has Nothing to Do with Productivity 1 year ago:
“Now everything has changed. If you work from home, apparently you’re a lazy bum who wastes company time by snacking, playing video games, watching Netflix, shopping, hanging out with your friends, drinking, spending time with your family, or having sex. You’re an awful person.”.
Jesus why can’t we just have a sensible debate ? Why do we have to resort to snark and sarcasm? There are so many good arguments to support working from home, why do we need to stoop to this level. This makes “our side” look like entitled children who’ve just had their toys taken away. Please stop for God’s sake.
- Comment on What's the Best Non-Alcoholic Alternative to an Ice Cold Beer at the End of the Day? 1 year ago:
For a long time I was in the “Non alcoholic beer can never replace real beer” camp. But in the last few years they’ve come a long way … and now you can buy low or no alcohol craft beers that are actually quite good.

You would think that Verizon had learned something from their purchase of AOL (2015) and Yahoo (2017) and subsequent 5B write-down but apparently not.
- Comment on SpaceX's Private Control Of Satellite Internet Concerns Military Leaders 1 year ago:
Honestly even of he was a great guy it’s still a bad idea to have an incredibly important military asset in the hands of a private corporation.
