  I have limited my usecases for selfhosting and thrown money at the problem. The usecases are:

  • image hosting and sharing with the family
  • backups of our family computers
  • digital file hosting
  • media hosting

  The last one is expendable. The first three are backed up into the cloud. I use a Synology, thus throwing money at the problem. Their cloud backup just works.

  Use a service with card DAV support like posteo.de.

  My contacts are synced between an iPhone, Linux Mint and a Mac. My Parter syncs between an iPhone and a Windows PC (Witt Thunderbird as mail Client).

  Business users are the target group. If your job needs you to reply to a lot of mails and the Myomen you press the reply button AI creates an answer for you, you only need to edit in some details, the time safed will probably be worth more than 30$ a month.

  Other use cases are internal communications. I know intranet software where you just promt a topic, a tone and what department you like from and it will create a news for you. Again not perfect, but safes you from staring at a blank page.

  Why are US users so focused on iMessage? I have seen rejected date memes because the message bubble had the wrong color. There are tons of alternatives out there. Is this a status thing?

  So you want to backup or do you want to file share/work together on documents?

  For backup I use Spideroak for all our families computers. It did a solid job over the last four Linux laptops and MacBooks I used. I only backup the home directory and the external drive with my Photo Library.

  For Cloud Storage I use OneDrive. I don’t have much to share, so this is normally enough.

  There are two questions to answer:

  • which current and voltage do the LED strips need (5V, 2A would be something you could support with USB 2).
  • what output does the charger provide as a maximum? Is it enough to power both strips (5V and two times the A).

  If these match it should work. Another topic could be the cable itself. Theoretically it could start to burn, if you try to channel to much current through it, but with simple USB I doubt it. If it is getting hot after some time, scrap your setup. This would be a fire hazard.

  I maybe did not understand 95% of this, but it is cool to see people understanding the math behind computing.

  It is called a programming language. I guess repeating some sentences or even the idea for a story is normal when you write a book or code a program.

  Be aware that a fast change in character could be a sign for a starting mental illness or a physical one affecting the brain.

  If you feel, you are no longer able to reach your friend, talk to a professional how you could support your friend. And discussing based on logic and common sense might not be the way to help.

  Baldurs Gate 3 was released on Friday on Mac. I played the preview and some hours on parallels and am glad now I can play natively now.

  My problem is, this world is to big. I like role playing my character, even if it is not optimal. I read every dialogue and think: “what would Hsslek (my Githyanki Dragonborn Wizard) do?”

  The great thing is, after around 50 hours I now have a picture of my character. A curious mind, not always fitting into Githyanki society, but counting on the Githyanki Warrior who shares his fate and is becoming his lover.
