Correct and sounds like the best of both worlds
I’ll grab a kitchen sponge
You can just cut 30x30 mm peace and zip-tie it over filament 😉

Enclosure will protect printer from dust and it will also keep the ambient temperature more stable. Dont make it hermetic sealed, better add few holes on the front and few on the back for example. I have a low rpm fan with dust filter because I mostly print PLA and in long prints (12h+) temperature can go a bit too high if there is no airflow at all. Keep in mind that enclosure should be removed sometimes for mintainance, removable sides is what you should look for.
You can leave filament on the printer, but if you dont use it for a long time it could get wet and then you have to dry it. Keep the rest of the spools in plastic sealed box or bag and put some silica gel inside.
Full calibration should be done once, but fine tuning when you face some issues or when you change to different brand or filament type. It depends how well the printer is assembled and how experienced you are, it can take only 5 min every few months, but begginers can spend days sometimes.
Extra tips: clean your rails and wheels whenever you can (once a month at least) for dusty garage. Get a kitchen sponge, drill a hole in it and guide filament trough the hole to remove any dust before extruder.
Welcome to the most fun hoby and happy printing!
- Comment on Those who are self hosting at home, what case are you using? (Looking for recommendations) 10 months ago:
For 9 disks I would need to print bigger case, ut this one suits me well for now 😉
- Comment on Should I use Restic, Borg, or Kopia for container backups? 10 months ago:
Daily backup to backblaze b2 and also to local storage with kopia. Its been running for a year I think, no issues at all. I didnt need a real backup yet, just did some restore tests so far
- Comment on TailScale, reverse VPN, or something else to make Kavita available remotely? 10 months ago:
I was asking the same question a year ago and now Im running 30-40 services, all available remotely using VPN.
Everyone is talking about tailscale and how easy it is to setup (never tried it), but I went for pure wireguard VPN and IMO its not complicated at all. I have 3 devices with access to VPN, but I also use reverse proxy NPM (+ pihole as DNS server) just to be able to use custom domain like
nextcloud.example
instead of typingIP:PORT
. I dont feel comfortable with opening ports to public, but had 0 issues with wireguard port opened (so far).Just giving you an example, other people here might have better advices

In my country pi4 8GB ram with PSU 130€ and then you need SD card and/or SSD
- Comment on Looking for low power devices for selfhosting 11 months ago:
Adding my data as well:
My server is diy desktop pc - mbo MSI Z270-A PRO with celeron G3930 and 16GB RAM, 3x SSD on 550W PSU, idles at 23W. After adding another 3.5" HDD consuption went up to 34W. 34W in Ctoatia is around 34€ a year.
Some SFF PCs are at 10-15W. SBCs like rpi should be below 10 W, but dont think you can get anything new for 80€
- Comment on Issues with layer adhesion (i think) 11 months ago:
-4c is extreemly cold, get thermometer inside of enclosure and leave your heatbed on until it reaches 10-15C before you start printing. Even better get enclosure heater. Id also bump nozzle temp to the highest marked on your spool.
- Comment on Sharp corner algorithm 11 months ago:
Why lower if you print everything at the same layer height?
- Comment on Sharp corner algorithm 11 months ago:
Interesting. This is new to me and it looks like it could work. It could be usefull if you print with 0.6 nozzle at 0.6 mm width and then in a corner narrow it down to 0.4 mm

Whats the point of botting posts from reddit to lemmy? Trying to make lemmy more active or something else?

You are too close everywhere. Im not using abl, but dont expect perfection from it. I believe if you increase offset it will be good everywhere. Machine can deal with small error, but not if its too much

I did try that, didn’t work. But your post made me check again and I figured there is also settings button and I disabled DNS Switch mode and its perfect now. Thank you

It looks like overextrusion, but Im not sure. Did you change overlap settings?
I would try with taller cube to eliminate 1st layer error. You might be overextruding, but due to higher nozzle distance your first layer can still look perfect
- Comment on 3d scanners - anyone got one? 1 year ago:
Its not the only problem obviously, but cant recommend any scanner sorry
- Comment on 3d scanners - anyone got one? 1 year ago:
If that is the only problem there are many solutions like this.
- Comment on Sticky residue buildup in PTFE Tube 1 year ago:
Just make sure you didn’t melt PTFE since its kinda unhealthy
- Comment on Sticky residue buildup in PTFE Tube 1 year ago:
BTW if you didn’t mod your printer you don’t have direct drive. Bowden tube is not long, but its still bowden setup. I’m not sure what sticky thing is, but it can be filament, PTFE or dust (on the outside of your filament - you can guide filament trough some kind of sponge to clean it before extruder). Nothing else should be there. If reducing retractions fixed the problem you might check your hotend fan. For high retractions you need proper cooling to avoid heat creep (assuming thats the problem). Not having all metal hotend with heat break makes it much harder ofc. What retraction settings do you use (now and before)?
You can also reduce stringing by increasing travel speed, using lower temps and smaller nozzle.

Looks like top 7 can be mounted in place of main gun and 5 on the bottom below.
BTW OP this looks amazing, hard to tell what skill is better, 3D modeling, printing or photography :D
- Comment on Noob advice regarding accessing outside my wifi 1 year ago:
Seems like you have 400/200 (download/upload) speed which is sick imo. I have 180/20 atm, moving soon to a new place with fiber connection woop, cant wait
- Comment on How do you clean a smooth or textured PEI sheet? 1 year ago:
I print on clean glass so it might be different. For some reason 99% isopropyl alc is not good for me, nothing sticks to the bed. 60% pharmacy alcohol is perfect, just quick wipe and im set. Didnt remove glass from printer for few years.

- Comment on What issue is this? Something with the z-seam? 1 year ago:
PLA is much harder and more brittle. Also PETG loves moisture and printers hate wet PETG, just saying
- Comment on What issue is this? Something with the z-seam? 1 year ago:
Also more info about printer and settings. Are you using preassure advance or coasting? Temps, speed, retraction settings
- Comment on What issue is this? Something with the z-seam? 1 year ago:
Hard to tell, but obviously your printer is struggling on layer change and/or retraction. Assuming its not play in your mechanism, Id fitst try printing just that part of the model without retraction and see is the problem gone. If it is, maybe you have too high retraction distance that can cause partial clogs. If the problem persist maybe you are overextruding a bit and then nozzle drags that corner out of the position. Tiny overextrusion can be a pain when printing “walls only” models. Its more guessing than anything, it would be nice to see your calibration models
- Comment on Linux friendly CAD programs? 1 year ago:
Please tell me more about your setup. Solidworks is the only app that holds me back from full switch to linux. I never tried windows vm in linux, hows the performance? What distro are you using? What vm? Version of windows and SW?
CAD on linux is far behind proffesional tools unfortunatelly. Even SW 2008 is amazing, but FOSS will need another 10-20 years to reach that level Im afraid
- Comment on Compact-ish NAS cases? 1 year ago:
All compact atx cases were too expensive for my liking, so I decided to make one. I should probably not suggest a case made of plastic, but if you have access to a 3D printer check this out. 288x207x343 mm in size and it can house full size ATX mobo and PSU and 3x 3.5" or 7x 2.5". Colling is silent and good, but I didnt test with more powerfull CPU or 3.5 HDDs
