- Comment on Should I just quit urban and social life for a rural and lonely life? 1 year ago:
Thank you for sharing this. I felt this abit as I walked out on a job that paid handsomely but I had to deal with unrealistic expectations and a passive aggressive boss. I put in my two months’ notice and all my colleagues remarked that I looked like the happiest guy on earth.
I’m privileged to be able to call it a day and take a break, and I’m enjoying applying to various outlets with no particular rush to land something. I spend my days doing things I enjoy, going to the gym, spending time tinkering with my PCs, enjoying games as a patient gamer, etc.
Someday I also wish to follow in OP’s footsteps and retire to a rural community where I can see out my days in peace, without dealing with all the doom and gloom in the world right now. I’ve long mentally checked out of Earth and looking forward to sweet sweet forever-sleep.

I will always shill for Bitwarden and will die on this hill. Free for most features and for $10 a year you get TOTP generation and the integration is so bloody well thought-through. Insane value and two thumbs up (or three, if I move to Fukushima).

That’s not the kind of ball-fondling I had in mind.
- Comment on Why is there such a large amount of communist and transgender related posts on the Fediverse compared to other websites? 1 year ago:
You (and probably I) are going to get downvotes for this, but this is as reasonable a take as I’ve seen from any “conservative” so far. As long as you’re not actively promoting legislation to curtail or ban consenting adults from privately expressing their love for others in the ways they feel most comfortable.
- Comment on Are you exposing any ports on your home server? 1 year ago:
80, 443 for HTTP/S, and 587 for a VPN service. Reason being that I travel frequently, and often have to connect through a bunch of different networks, Airport WiFi, mobile roaming, hotel WiFi, etc. and you never know the kinds of network restrictions they impose on their pipes.
80 and 443 is least likely to be dropped, while 587 is a common SMTP port that could make it through most networks.
- Comment on Are NUC hardware good for self hosting? 1 year ago:
I’m running all my microservices on a couple of repurposed NUC5i5RYKs, running Ubuntu 22.04 (I know I know) and Docker. They’ve been absolutely rock steady thus far, though not quite as overkill as I like all my computers to be. But I got them in 2015 and they’ve held up more than admirably.
