A Wall is Also a Road, by Annalee Newitz. 4 ½ stars/5.
A solid inter-galactic allegorical novel about discrimination, exploitation, and corruption, but also about the complexities and expanded possibilities when it comes to loving relationships, and what it is we mean when we say "humanity" or personhood.
It builds somewhat on the themes in Automatic Noodle, in that last respect, but make no mistake, this novel is very different than any of the author's previous work. The world-building is unique, clear, and absolutely fascinating. It also involves sexy alien dark academia. There's a lot going on here, but my main takeaways are that these are timely themes, integrity is everything, and we should all fight for the better world we want.
@kimlockhartga That sounds great! The cover is beautiful too.
