Whatever. Crimson Desert is likely a better game anyway.
"Most people" at Bethesda wanted to make Elder Scrolls 6 before Starfield, claims Skyrim co-lead, but Todd Howard dragged them aboard his rocketship

It probably unpopular here, but I think that starfield first was a good idea. It let them build and test a full game after changes to the engine. The feedback the mixed results can help make ES6 better if they actually listen to it.

I genuinely enjoyed Starfield for what it was.
It’s not a perfect game by any means, but I had a good time.

ES6 development needs to take exactly as long as possible, it would’ve been a disaster if it launched in the pace of Starfield. There exists people who still find new things after hundreds of hours on Skyrim, and ES6 is expected to be a title surpassing it, which is a really high bar.

Starfield was in dev for 8 years. If they can’t pull it off in 8 years, they aren’t going to pull it off. Witcher 3 was done in 3.5 years. Skyrim was about 6 years. Crimson Desert was around 7 years. These games are all vastly more rich than Starfield, and I think Todd has lost the plot. Games need time, but they can also become a narrow, over baked turd. I worry for Bethesda’s future.

Todd Howard is more trouble than he’s worth. Just shit can him. He hasn’t done anything worth while for the last decade or two

Yeah the guy needs to step down. He absolutely is living in the 2000s and hasn’t played anything modern.

Recent news says that Asha has effectively done that and is more actively involved in Bethesda now. Not that I think she’s better based on recent statements and actions.

I’ll always respect Todd for what he did for Bethesda back in the Morrowind/Oblivion era. At this point though, I think his ego and need to micromanage everything makes him a liability. He reminds me more of Peter Molyneux every year.

He went fully Molyn aud with Fallout 76 and “16 times the detail” - a meaningless stat for an empty game.

It’s truly amazing how we have repeated the oil and train barons, but now they are the game barons with egoes just as great. It’s notable that the train barons, although absurdly wealthy in their day, mostly became broke in the end.
