  I read women in Sparta could own property. Wasn’t a popular idea at the time, so they at least got that right.

    Spartan wives famously grew very influential because they’d remarry when their warrior husband died in combat, and they’d keep inheriting land. Generations of Spartan widows put a handful of women in charge of much land, and by extension, of politics.
