Wait before this event you hadn’t played anything newer than 1996? My god
Glad to hear it! Diablo II will rock your world next. I still play it occasionally and I get addicted for a few weeks.
Playing Diablo 2 is one of my favorite gaming memories. I’m excited for what’s ahead for you
If you have the opportunity to play through D2 with a friend I highly recommend it.

I am so jealous of you getting to play Diablo 2 for the first time. Savor it don’t rush you will never get that feeling back. Do you plan on doing the original on a CRT or resurrection?

Absolutely no mods are required to play D2-LoD multiplayer on battle.net.
If you decide against resurrection and go for the original, I would suggest to also get the Lord of Destruction expansion right away. It not only includes two additional character classes, additional monster classes and weapons but also allows you to play on higher resolution

Project Diablo 2 is a pretty vanilla version of Diablo 2 LoD. Yes, it rebalances.skills and items, and adds corruptions and endgame maps, but there’s no new skills. For a complete overhaul, you want MedianXL.
That said, I’d still forego both and go with D2R. Modding is coming along, finally. After a regular playthrough or eighteen (6 classes × 3 difficulties), give Diablo 2 ReModded a try.

yeah I have played both resurrection is great. I even enjoyed the controller controls on my steamdeck and went back and forth with my PC no issues.
