Yummmm. I mean, no yumm, but so pretty.
A large colony of what is likely Amanita muscaria var. guessowii growing under a rare Sergeant hemlock

Some kinds can be eaten, and get you high.
I have a friend who is really into less common psychedelics, and we ate some one time. It was after a concert, so we were already drunk and high (weed and kratom), and we both fell asleep before it had any effect.
I woke up a couple of hours later, and his cat was standing on my chest just looking at me. He grows some of his own stuff, so most of his home has panels of red and blue lights, making everything have this really cool purple glow with a kind of chromatic aberration effect.
What I saw/experienced in my tripped state, though, was some mythical creature god that was watching over me as it welcomed me into its dimension. It was awesome, and I felt so taken care of and safe that I fell asleep again, like a baby being held by its mother.
I have a photo of the cat in the purple light from earlier that night if anyone wants to see, it’s one of the prettiest cats I’ve ever seen.chumbalumber@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 months ago

It’s been used medicinally for a while, mostly in Siberia. That mushroom has a very interesting history and research is finally opening up for it.
A decent read: chacruna.net/fly-agaric-amanita-muscaria-traditio…
Oh, it’s not to be confused with the Death Cap, Amanita phalloides, for those who don’t know.
