This begs the question, could any of the great Trek engineers destroy the one ring?

O’Brien could just beam it to Mt. Doom directly. Wouldn’t make much of a fun story though.

Though Mordor is where the greatest concentration of Melkor itself is in all Arda, so it could not be (easily) possible. Though God himself punched Arda so hard it went from a plane to a sphere almost solely because Sauron went to Númenor, so He might pull some strings to let it pass.

Just once is like to see a Warhammer 40k style broadsider (with Star Trek tech) show up in Star Trek and watch everybody poopy their pants as it started unloading endless torpedo salvos.

Give it WH40K tech. It would basically be invulnerable. Not sure that it would be able to hit the Trek ships with the torpedos though. They would outmatch it in maneuverability, but those battleships are made to withstand weapons that are many magnitudes larger than anything the Federation has available. They routinely destroy worlds, but battleships have been known to survive for generations totally disabled and exposed to the vaccume of space. They can destroy planets, but even WH40K doesn’t have an effective way to destroy those battleships, without physically running them into a planet or a star.

Don’t sell short the levels of destructive capability Federation has access to if it really cared about such things. Off the top of my head, there are some messed up “off-label” uses for stuff we’ve seen the Federation has access to by the 2380s:
- Red Matter is featured in Star Trek '09, though it originates from the prime timeline. Obvious application for making black holes on demand. Y’know, I’m not actually sure why the Vulcan Science Academy made so much of it, but we see even in small amounts it can be used as a planet killing weapon.
- The Protostar Class from Prodigy is probably the potentially Federation’s most terrifying weapon. The contained protostar at the heart of the ship explodes (canonically, though unrealistically) into a supernova if containment fails, and with full holo-emitter coverage it could be run by a holographic crew. Lock down the ETH’s personality matrix and you’ve got a fully automated transwarp supernova bomb.

Sounds like a Voyager plotline

When you hoped for exactly 12002 of a thing.

It could have also been 12001 or 12003.
