  Serious theory:

  During the attack the turbo lift system was overworked and backed up with requests.

  At the same time, there is only one way off the bridge. The computer knows this and that the ship is at red alert. It also knows the captain and most of the command crew are on the bridge.

  When Kirk signals he is leaving the bridge a turbo lift has to be prioritized despite them all being occupied and the nearest lift is rerouted.

  It just so happens it was the lift the Scotty was using to take his nephew to sickbay with.

    Or to add to this, Scotty knows a request to travel from the bridge to sickbay is going to take priority in an alert situation so travelled via the bridge to skip the queue.

    Scotty knew this training shakedown was going to be easy times, so he got into the bottle of green stuff he keeps stashed in the intermix chamber.

    People do strange things when in shock.

    I was once working retail when a woman wandered in, puffy coat ripped up, bleeding from somewhere between her shoulder and arm as it was dripping onto the floor.

    She limps in, and proceeds to shop like normal, albeit clearly in pain.

    She and her husband were going shopping and she was in the passenger seat when a car t-boned the vehicle hard enough to flip it more than once. She apparently managed to pull herself out of the vehicle and had wandered away in shock.

    It finally hit when someone rushed over to help/call an ambulance and she started screaming/crying.

    I don’t know what happened to them after paramedics came, and by the time I left the whole scene had been mostly cleaned up except some stray glass and plastic. By the time someone brought in the newspaper article about it, nobody had died.
