He wouldn’t on paper. There isn’t such a clause in ‘Capitulaciones de Santa Fe’ au contrare there was clause that everything discovered or conquered would be his family to govern perpetually and they will recieve 8th (or 10th?) part of everything traded. Obviously kings of Spain wouldn’t grant this in reality so his family started a number of lawsuits that resulted in them obtaining a small part of the land and a pension from the crown.

Yeah, if anything i would have thought “discovering” a “new” land would be better in terms of personal power and wealth.
