Yes, tags would be helpful in searching and filtering posts of interest. It may also be helpful in hiding unwanted posts.

Can we get a NSFL and a NSFW tag?

Do you think having post tags would be helpful on Lemmy? Why or why not?
Yes, although the search is pretty great, it’s the scrolling down the list for certain communities that I want to go to that is a pain in the butt. Having tags like reddit where it seems like they’re categories but in reality are tags, is what would help with the situation because I can then hopefully search tags as well within the communities. It just adds another layer.
How should tags be displayed and integrated into Lemmy?
I like the idea of tags for the community and then tags for everyone to add within the community.
This is a dream request, but I would love it if you could save tags at the top like in RES old but for general stuff and/or actual communities. So like in Mastodon, you can subscribe to an entire category like “USnews” and every community and post with “USnews” would show up under that tag. I would press that tag and instant feed of that topic. People would block communities if they used it incorrectly or spammy.
On the top row you could also edit and save your top communities you go to, now I have to scroll through my subscriptions. So my top row as an example could say (should be able to edit it how it looks, this is just to show content): USnews (group tag) Politics.lemmyworld (specific community) WorldNews (group tag) Art( group tag) Reddit.Lemmworld (specific community) AskLemmy.lemmyworld (specific community)

also I think having tags for users would be a good idea, for example in niche communities that revolves around science, medical having a tag like “verified doctor” or “verified scientist” put a lot of weight for them while having conversations.

Yes, that’s correct The user defines them after they find them and puts them at the top (actually anywhere, lol) in my dream scenario. Tags with general links to communities would be a great way to find new ones too.

Love this idea. I think we should also make sure that we are keeping broader fediverse compatibility in mind. Particularly kbin and mastodon.

As a user, I like this idea. However, I don’t know really have any input on how to implement it or what it should look like. Smarter people than me can figure that out, I’m sure.

Posting my comment here to improve visibility. I’ll refer to this comment for further clarification.
My second suggestions was also already pointed out but as on reddit communities should be able to predesign some tags that the users will be able to select (just like on reddit). Additionally users should be able to add maybe up to four other tags to their post the number would have to be discussed with the community to prevent tag spamming.
Adding user based tags should not be a big problem for moderation as on mastodon anyone can give themslves any hashtag they wan’t which seems to work well. Additionally (community and even instance) moderators would have the ability to search for inappropriate tags in bulk which they can then further analyze and remove if it contains inappropriate language.
These user based tags could be displayed in a small field right below the post body wheras the important tags as well as the community picked tags would be displayed above the post just like on reddit. In a further step an option could be implemented to hide the user given tags entirely or just collapse this field.
