Another week in the books. Let’s chat about manga in the general discussion thread! Feel free to use this thread for questions, comments, recommendations, etc.
Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).
I’m not really in the mood to start anything new at the moment so I mostly just caught up with the last few chapters of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. They’re cool but feel somewhat slow (not necessarily in a bad way, just made me feel that way). I don’t have much to say about it at the moment beyond: I’m really curious how this arc is going to play out.
Other than that, after the recent announcement that Yona of the Dawn is coming to an end I’m looking into catching up with that as well. I’ve been reading it through physical releases until now but since I’m not exactly in a situation where I can buy them at the moment I put it on hold. I’ll probably switch to digital until I can buy the rest of the series but I really do want to know how it ends - should have plenty of content to go through in the meantime.
I have been on the road a lot this past week, but I was able to check out a new series that I enjoyed a lot:
Yeah…it is a super long title, but I have been having a good time. It’s a reincarnation story where the mage of the heroes’ party is killed as they defeat the demon king. He is then reincarnated as a princess several generations later in the kingdom that the hero built after the fall of the demon king. Unfortunately it is comically misogynistic, so step 1 of this princess is to get so super strong so that she can remake the kingdom that her hero would have wanted. One of the things I have liked about this series is how much the misogyny of this world is actually imposed on women by other women (just like real life!). Sure, there is the typical douchey prince character, but it is mostly the other noble ladies that are judging the MC and spreading rumors/gossip as well as her mother that is constantly trying to keep her from becoming a fighter. This makes it stand in contrast to a story like Sexiled: My Sexist Party Leader Kicked Me Out, So I Teamed Up with a Mythical Sorceress! where the FMC is basically always cheered on by the women around her and held up as a symbol of liberation.

While I was in Japan I stopped by the Kyoto International Manga Museum and read the first volume of Daemons of the Shadow Realm/Yomi no Tsugai. I really liked it, so I picked up volumes 1-10 to read once I finish my re-read of Kaguya-sama: Love is War.
I also picked up the following:
I almost picked up a full 77 volume set of Gintama for $100, but ended up deciding that bringing such a thing home would be too impractical. Shame.
