Mao didn’t invent the phrase, he only used it. The phrase vastly predates communism in China.
Trump is not any kind of communist, Maoist or otherwise. For example, he’s not nationalizing any industries, he has not abolished private property, he has not supported workers’ rights, he has not attempted to disempower the capitalist class nor has he promised to do so, and the de-facto redistribution of wealth is from the poor to the rich, i.e. the opposite direction of what communists call for.
Trump is a fascist like every other US President. However, Trump is accelerating the decay of American capitalism into full fascism at an alarming clip.

I think you’re putting a little too much emphasis on the “paper tiger” bit. It’s become a common saying that’s pretty well divorced from how it first became popularly known. Also, you kind of answer your own question:

I know but honestly, if you came from a communist country like China, you wouldn’t think that the comment of “paper tigers” should be ignored.
I still have family in Vietnam, China, and now the ignored conflict over Hong Kong as “reading too much into it”. Did you see what’s happening there? It’s been going on for years and no one cares or knows in the west… but I do and I know, it’s my family over there fighting to protect their passports and pleading to not be apart of the mainland…
So I do not! Think it’s “divorced for how it became”, I know first hand that comments, lead to actions, and lead to WORSE.
