Don’t know much about mushrooms except what I get from the grocery store and a white dude with dreds and a hacky sack. Been hiking up in the great lakes area and have come across a ton of different mushies the past few weeks. Gonna get some books and start trying to identify them. Until then I’ll leave them be and just take pictures and let yall speculate on what I’ve seen.
Looks like a waxcap or Hygrocybe sp.

You can safely pick the mushrooms to take pictures of the underside and pry them apart to show internal structure and color changes when the insides are exposed to air. These will help identification.
It’s like picking a flower from a bush, the mushroom is just the reproductive organ. The body of the organism is in the substrate (dirt, pant, etc).
