CEOs might be reaching an Era of irrelevancy. Most of the time theybare responsible for the downfall of their company.

Except often they have golden parachutes and move on to another executive role. At the end of the day it’s the employees and consumers who suffer, not CEOs.
And usually, CEOs do exactly what the board wants. They make decisions that are piss poor against future-proofing things, but they raise stock prices quarter by quarter, so investors are happy to have made money off one CEO and then pull stock, reinvesting it once the next CEO comes around to repeat the cycle.

Well obviously the previous model didn’t work that’s why the board made me CEO!

The problem was with the customers, so we got rid of them!

Do we really need a developer team or operations anymore? We can just outsource them to Kenya. The function of a business is to create value not employ a bunch of dead weight computer nerds.

If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.
