I’m a techie and consider it a great option for techies, too.

Yep. NextDNS if you want something simple and easy, piHole if you want and are capable of putting your own together.

Personally I went the self-hosted way: I’m running a PiHole and using AdGuard’s dnsproxy in order to expose DoH and DoT to the internet for my personal use.

Nice.
Personally I use dnscrypt and filter requests myself (with the help of filter lists of course) with postmaster on desktop and rethinkdns on android (using quad9 dnscrypt option, but on pc I hand picked the servers).

Kinda a weird question regarding DoH on android. Is there a way to have DoH bypass certain local domains without implementing it router level.
For example at home devices use a prefix like router.example.com or homeassistant.example.com (on internal lan). Some services on the domain are portforwarded while others are only available via internal net this causes issues when trying to acess internal devices.
On ios (in NextDNS specifically) there is an excluded domains feature which allows this. Unfortunatley android doesn’t seem to have a similar option

I use Control ID on my router. On my phone (IOS), I use Aha DNS Blitz because it uses a VPN profile instead of an app, so it protects you on any network you’re connected to (home wifi, mobile data, public wifi, etc.).

Is this different than PiHole?

ControlD also used a VPN profile on iOS, here’s a screenshot from my phone

Oh I didn’t know that! I’ll try it. Thanks for this!

I’ve been using Mullvad DNS (the adblocking variant) on my phone to block ads and I have to say, it works pretty well. I didn’t even know some of my Play apps have ads, it’s that effective.

I wish Mullvad would expand their service to offer something like NextDNS with blocklists. I love DNS expect for the fact that they are based in the US and have the capability of logging.
That said, without the occasional log I would probably never have been able to fix some issues.

Running a lot of DoH and DoT within my devices and my network

I’ve been using NextDNS, and it’s working quite well for me. It successfully blocks ads and is easy to disable, if I ever need to.
