So I managed to piss off Daniel Supernault so much that delete my loops account, blocked me on the loop discord, and probably blocked me mastodon because I called him out a lot for making no progress on loops. It’s a long story and I could post it to this group (subreddit?) if you’re interested I can tell the story and get any receipt I still have
But im curious what the sentiment is about him.
Foss developers are donating their time and expertise to develop something for free for everyone. You have no right to demand they do this. If u have an issue go write the fucking code urself and make a pull request.
If u donated a large sum of money then u might have the right to ask what’s happening. Pay the developer for their time or shut the fuck up and be gratefull.
Actually Dan sup is actually asking for money and has done a Kickstarter. But hey I’m happy to put people down
Which got funded instantly because of a huge number of people who were happy about the work he’s done already. Funny how that works.

That would only happen if they weren’t being polite or constructive. If they blocked you then you had to have been in the wrong based on how you behave here.

Seeing a lot of good faith invested in the comments here. I’m really proud to be part of the fedi. I hope Dan keeps up the good work and people keep spreading positivity. Not only federation makes us strong and resilient. People being diverse and constructive is a fucking superpower. Thank you all so much.

Absolutely. As a Foss developer and advocate for freedom and equity, I know this too well. A thank you goes a long way. Dan has done great work.

He blocked you, that seems like good work.
It is important for the fedi to stay constructive even in the face of confrontation and trolling. Our backbone are people who bring forth their skills and knowledge. We stand united for them as we stand for our communities.

Don’t take that as a personal attack, by the way. I just think you should probably be less invested in trying to manage random strangers on the internet, and instead focus on your own progress with whatever you’re trying to do in life.
If you’re excited about Loops and you want to see this dude make progress faster, you’re not going to achieve that by bugging him about it on social media–that achieves nothing at all.

I just wanted to remind you that you’re not this dude’s manager, and it’s probably not really your place to be worrying about his rate of progress.
If you want him to do something for you, maybe find out some way to pay him, otherwise just sit on your hands and wait for him to do whatever he ends up doing, because pestering people on social media is never going to achieve anything other than getting you blocked. People don’t like being bothered, especially not by random dudes on social media.
If you’re excited about loops (or any other FOSS development), then the best way to express that is just by telling people how excited you are, not trying to grill them like you’re their boss or something.
That’s just my opinion as a FOSS developer of 6+ years.

Holy shit a normal person. I actually there are other people that answer my question earnestly which is awesome. I yeah I read the open letter on GitHub and never got quite what he did to be offend that Foss developer, but I did reach out to them and told them my experience with Dan to be supportive of them and appreciate them as a developer of the fediverse

Loops app update is coming on the weekend, that was a few weekends ago.
I get a nice little chuckle out of him saying it’s coming this weekend.
He makes good things but he really needs to let go of the rope and let other people help him more, also I think he needs to sleep so he doesn’t go do and say dumb shit online.
I’ve seen him have little crazy rants on discord then delete them a minute or so later.
I made a loops video calling him out for those weekend updates and he went out of his way to delete it on loops

There’s your problem, right there. He doesn’t work for you. He’s made a bunch of stuff, and it’s up to him how fast he wants to make it, full stop. If you “called him out a lot” to the point that he blocked you on multiple platforms, the issue is 100% you, and you need to stop harassing the people who are making good stuff for us.

I had to deal someone recently lashing out at me for not being interested enough in their little project when I didn’t write paragraphs about their idea. I’m busy with things in my life, I can’t just drop everything for some internet stranger. OP needs some forest air.

It’s part of the long story but it started out when Dan promised to release the source “this weekend” 12 days ago with no published source code then it got pettier. If Dan didn’t make any promises I’d would have gotten bored and left. I would not describe my calling out as harassment, but I’d like to hear about the good stuff he did

He can stop working for a year, and not do shit, and that’s fine. Even if he promised you that it would take you to Mars by the weekend. Because it’s his work.
Stop harassing the people that make stuff for you for free. It doesn’t matter if it hasn’t met your service expectations. I don’t give a shit. No one owes you software for free.
Go buy software, if you want, then you can yell at someone in particular if it’s not meeting your expectations. It’s one thing to complain about some feature that’s missing, that is more or less fine as you as you’re not overly objectionable or strident about it. Harassing one of the developers personally is fucked.
