  @kimlockhartga @bookstodon I'd recommend giving Frankenstein and Dracula a read if you haven't, I'm currently reading The Haunting of Hill House... I also recommend anything by Richard Chizmar, Riley Sagar and Grady Hendrix

    @g1m01982 @bookstodon I can't find Riley Sagar. I've read Grady Hendrix.

      @kimlockhartga @bookstodon I misspelled his last name, it's Sager, some titles include: The Unknown, Final Girls, Home Before Dark

  @kimlockhartga @bookstodon
  I can highly recommend Nghi Vo's new novel, The Scarlet Ball.

    @templetongate @kimlockhartga @bookstodon
    I have Nghi Vo's City in Glass. She did a small group chat in an online con I attended recently. I don't know how I did this, but somehow I purchased two copies if anyone is interested. I also purchased her Empress of Salt and Fortune.

    Though not recent reads/acquisitions, here are a couple of other horror faves. I especially like stories:
    Tiny Nightmares: Very Short Stories of Horror, Michel et al
    The Things We Lost in the Fire by Mariana Enriquez

      @MargaretSefton @templetongate @bookstodon I do enjoy both Nghi Vo (The Chosen and the Beautiful) and Mariana Enriquez (Our Share of Night, The Dangers of Smoking in Bed). Enriquez scared the crap out of me with one of her doppelganger stories.

  @kimlockhartga @bookstodon

  Give " 'Human Nature' and other stories" a try.
  Jessica M. Taylor is the author aka @QuokkaMocha... I'm reading it now and it's something you shouldn't read late a night, in remote locations, in run-down neighbourhoods... etc.

  @kimlockhartga @bookstodon oh I’ll check these titles out as (as you know) I am enjoying The Rouse and I really loved The Buffalo Hunter Hunter

  @kimlockhartga @bookstodon

  I recently read 'Horrorstör' by Grady Hendrix and enjoyed it.

  'The Hollow Places' by T Kingfisher was good, too.

  @kimlockhartga @bookstodon I'll add Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zheng, Kylie Lee Baker.

  Also anything from the classic writers like Poe, Blackwood, Hodgson . . .

    @GramrgednAngel @bookstodon oh, and sorry, I don't know who Blackwood or Hodgson are? I couldn't locate them on my app without first names. Poe, of course, we know. The Masque of the Red Death remains one of my favorites.

      @kimlockhartga @GramrgednAngel @bookstodon I'm guessing Algernon Blackwood and William Hope Hodgson?

    @GramrgednAngel @bookstodon agreed. That was an excellent book by Kylie Lee Baker. Have you read her new one, yet? I have heard good things.

  @kimlockhartga @bookstodon

  I wouldn't call it good horror, necessarily, but reading any politics news about the Western world is pretty grim right now.

    @greem @bookstodon This is true. I tried to read a satire earlier this year that was so spot-on, it was depressing.
