Crampon@lemmy.world 7 months agoI live rather far north yes. I’ve seen polar bears before when traveling in the deep arctic. I have never seen any other bear.
Black bears are pretty scared of people as far as I’ve seen online. Polar bears are afraid of missing a meal.

Yeah, most people are going to be encountering a black or brown bear and the bear will just move off on its own or give you a threat display because you’re near its cubs. (Just back away slowly for either bear)

Juvenile black bears can be aggressive when they’re trying to make territory, but usually that just makes them dumb teenagers that are trying to scare you. It’s very easy to scare them back.
