Comment on "We have overthrown our republic five times, and we have become exceedingly efficient at it"

Explanation: France, sometimes memetically considered a poster child for government instability, is currently on their Fifth Republic. The First French Republic was founded in 1792, and their Fifth (and current) was founded in 1958.
South Korea is currently on their Sixth Republic. Their First Republic was in 1948 - and their Fifth ended in 1988.

I think the meme of regime instability is justified. In between the five Republics there were also several other regimes like the Consulate, 1st Empire, Restoration, 100 Days, Second Restoration, July Monarchy, 2nd Empire, and Vichy.

Japan has the expression “3 day supreme ruler” for this guy in 1582 who murdered the previous guy who was on the verge of unifying the country after centuries of civil war, claimed the sought-after title of Shogun (supreme military commander of the country), and got murdered himself after 13 days. In and out.

The July Monarchy lasted 18 years…

And the commune
milkisklim@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Fair enough point. I always thought the Commune was just a Paris regional thing and didn’t even extend its influence as far as Versailles, so not like a whole French government

Well you are right… it only stayed in Paris really, until they got a tiny army, tried to leave Paris and for crushed militarily
